September 9th, 2008 06:19 PM #1hello all tsikoters.

I've an acquanitance who has mint-condition 1978 Mitsubishi Lancer (2-door). The dash and the steering wheels are still all original, the leather covers on the roof are not cracked and still has the original color, the old school AM/FM stereo still works and stock wheels. The only thing he changed was the tyres: he slapped on white-wall tyres. He had this since 1978 and as of last year, the car still sounds like new. If one looks at the engine, still very clean - and all stock. Milleage? I don't remember but I'm pretty sure it's less than 100K.
His secret for keeping this old car like brand new? Simple: he doesn't use the car much. In fact, he rarely uses it. He just turns the engine every-day and runs it on idle for a few minutes. The only time that car gets out of the garage is when he takes it to church on Sundays - and the church is less than 2kms from his home. The car sits inside a covered garage. Does he clean it? Sure he does - once a week (I think). Dusting off the old car with care. Does he wash it? Seldom. Why? He rarely takes it out for a spin during rainy days.

September 10th, 2008 11:37 AM #5having a proper roof over your car would help a lot. saves your car from bird poo, falling rotting fruits, etc. car covers, even if they are water repellant, seems half baked -- there's a chance you may scrape the car if dust particles get trapped under the cover.
btw, most of the hardware shops still sell carnauba based wax. sa specialty shops lang ba makakabili ng paint sealant?

3) once a month is ok.
4) ask mo na lang mga detailing guru. :D
Agree with you there. Nicely put.
