Being right at the equator the sun beats down on us like nothing else and while synthetic rubber is a bit better than au naturel it still eventually bakes.
Lots of temperate countries with roads just as bad as ours but tires last longer.

Our 12-year-old Toyota Fortuner failed the MVIS in miserable fashion...thank God | TopGear PH
How many other stubborn or misinformed car owners are out there driving around with shoddy brakes? And we aren’t even taking into account the thousands of rundown jeepneys, buses, and other PUVs roaming our streets. A system like this is put in place exactly for the purpose of weeding these cases out.

Tire companies want to change the 5-year maximum tire age rule by the MVIS | Autodeal
The Tire Importers and Traders Association of the Philippines (TITAP) a group of almost all the tire brands in the Philippines, has sent a letter to DOTr Secretary Arthur P. Tugade about concerns that they have with the Motor Vehicle Inspection System (MVIS). The group stated that the 5-year prescribed age limit for tires was unfair and negligent.Furthering their case, the group cited the U.S. NHTSA by saying, tires that are mounted properly and are well maintained can be used for six years safely. Adding more evidence to their argument, the TITAP also stated that a tire can still be safe to use until 10 years after the date of manufacture.

After reading the article from TopGear.
Yes, matagal nang may visual inspection prior registration.
Naaalala ko dati nung may taxi pa kami (more than 20 years ago), one of our units was NOT allowed to register as it did not have a rear windshield and taillights were all cracked.

March 9th, 2021 02:39 PM #419Ito nga yung misconception ng karamihan at yung "alternative truth" na tinulak ni Tugade when tinutulak and justify nila yung MVIS agad (phase 2 for private, even without phase 1 for PUJ). Na kesyo need natin magkainspection talaga daw to register.
Di nila sinasabi na may rules ang LTO na dapat naman talaga may visual inspection, kaso daming kotse naregister na no-show or di ginagawa ng LTO personnel yung visual inspection na part of legal mandate nila kasi may tongpats para umusad na yung papel naman kadalasan as SOP.
Kahit dun sa segment ng Autodeal nung pinagusapan nila yung MVIS sa youtube/podcast nila, di nila bring up yung actual fact na required naman talaga inspection dati pa, di lang kasing busisi ng MVIS but meron pa din. Di lang ginagawa ng LTO. Kaso never sinabi sa discussions din ito, nung andun yung isang MVIS operator/owner.

was asking to see the EWDs.
'buti na lang, for some reason, the car had two sets.
"eto po. anong gusto ninyong buksan natin, yung bughaw, o yung pula?"
One can only hope.
Cheaper brands than Motolite but reliable as well
