Pag galing kayo ng u.p. marunong ba yung ibang drivers ng merge in traffic going to commonwealth. Di ba minsan may mga nakahinto na sasakyan kase meron engot na driver mag swerve papunta sa 1st u-turn slot. 60 is ok for commonwealth relax driving not stressfull. if nababagalan yung iba punta kayo race track or try go carting and labas nyo full potential nyo bilang isang race car driver. public roads are not race tracks bros. Alam nyo ba bket nagtatraffic? we filipinos have our own laws for the road pabilisan, unahan at di nagbibigayan. pag may bagong law puro angal. sumunod muna kase... mga bros ang sasakyan natin ay deadly weapon pwede tayo makasakit at pwede tayo masaktan isa lang buhay natin mga bro. Ingat sa pagmamaneho...

Last night, on Winnie Monsod's show "Bawal Ang Pasaway", it was mentioned that if you got "caught" speeding along Commonwealth, the consequence is you have to pay your ticket. If you don't pay the ticket, then you will have problems when you next transact with the LTO (when you renew your license).

    Problem 1:

    - How can they link the car to the driver? It is not uncommon to have a different registered owner and driver.

    Problem 2:

    - Given the MMDA only have two speed cameras operating, they "caught" 20,000 erring drivers in a month's time. But only less than 5,000 letters have been sent out so far. The MMDA cited that they do not have the resource to quickly send out the letters (with picture) to all the erring drivers in a shorter time frame. So you can end up having multiple violations even before you know anything was up.

    Problem 3:

    - Slowing down the traffic flow does not solve the root cause of the problem of vehicle vs pedestrian accidents.

    Problem 4:

    - When you do receive the letter saying you have violated the speeding law, the MMDA has no real teeth to "punish" violators. MMDA said that a violator will have "problems" when renewing his driver's license. Given that a license is renewed every three years, that is a very long time.

well.. if you would allow me to voice my opinion on the problems:

problem 1: currently there is the LTO text service where you can see the vehicle's registration history and check the legitimacy of vehicles. isn't it the norm or SOP to check vehicle details before deciding to buy any vehicle? the majority of second-hand car buyers I know almost always use the lto txt service-- so it's always a good idea to check before purchasing.

regardless if the vehicle is still registered under a previous owner, the current owner will have to burden the responsibility/penalty when renewal of registration of the vehicle arrives. I think this is better (having a picture) compared to what is going on now wherein when you renew your vehicle--- surprise surprise! you got a violation out of the blue.

problem 2: I don't think sending out letters or pictures will be a problem. vehicles need to be renewed once a year so at least the mmda has a time range of a month or two to send out letters. also, come yearly renewal time they can just display your [speeding] violation/s on-screen from a database and show you. I don't think may gana ka pa i-contest ang speeding violation kapag nakapicture na with speed, time, date right in front of you.

let's think of this as baby steps for the MMDA. for now it's two speed cameras, testing the waters kumbaga. maybe in a few months or after a year madadagdagan na ng speed cameras and hindi lang along commonwealth.

problem 3: speeding may not be the root cause but the important thing is the authorities are doing something about it. it's not just vehicles versus pedestrians but also vehicles versus vehicles collisions.

the fact is, commonwealth AVENUE is not a highway nor an expressway. it is a road with plenty of residential and commercial areas. going beyond 60 kph in a populated area is not a good idea-- dapat nga masmababa pa ang speed limit eh [imo]

PROBLEM 4: this is a no contact apprehension. vehicle renewal is done yearly so [current] owner of the car will have to pay the penalty. kahit na itinda mo pa ang sasakyan there is the text service of the LTO-- as I said, as a car buyer, it is always a good idea to use this text service to check the vehicle's details before buying.

    ----------
I've read plenty of people voicing their complaints that 60 kph is too slow but we can't do anything about it since IT'S THE LAW. the vehicle who got caught by the speed cam twice (128 and 100 kph) undoubtedly deserves to be fined. I don't know, maybe the driver is reading impaired since there are plenty of signages displayed stating that 60 kph is the limit along commonwealth avenue-- or is maybe a person suffering from IBS (irritable-bowel syndrome).

The root problem is discipline for all who use the road. Private cars, public vehicles, motorcyclists, pedestrians, etc

First of all, pedestrians should use the pedestrian overpasses. If they get hit by a car, the motor vehicle driver should not be liable for anything (at least for this road). In fact, any damages on the motor vehicle should be charged to the pedestrian or his/her family.

It seems heartless but if that what it takes to make hard-headed pasaway people to learn... then make it so.
