Maybe most people here just got used to the over-hyped reviews and sweet talk we see on TV and in print. Over here at Tsikot, we just tell it how it is. Unlike motoring journalists, we don't get free lunches, free trips, or free vacations from dealers and manufacturers.
The Fortuner is built on a ladder frame and it will not be as rigid as any current monocoque design. Off-roaders even prefer ladder frames because they can 'flex' with the terrain.
IMHO, the review was not bad. But I guess the Fortuner is a bit overhyped by the marketing department. There is really nothing special to it. And it was made with cost considerations in mind.
Some squeaks and shudders can be expected.
Even GEN II Pajeros and current Patrols which use a fully-boxed ladder frame with numerous crossmembers still shudder and jiggle on road imperfections. Though most average users will not really notice it.

Whew! Looks like we have a surplus on Fortuner threads lately hehehe.
Anyways Marv, I like the way you coined the Fortuner as the Pajero for the new Millenium.
Indeed, I myself found the Fortuner quite imposing in real metal.
But i have to differ on you on the 2.7L Gas' value.
People looking for space will gladly sacrifice some engine grunt and fuel economy for this certified Big Boy. I know I would.
But the Fortuner is not without its flaws....
DRUM BRAKES????!!!!!! BLECH!!!!!
65Liter Fuel tank??? Not an issue if your'e down with filling up every week.

pk,
yup, i conclude similarly about the 2.7. fine for those who need space and won't settle for a minivan -- or simply want to be seen in a brawny SUV -- but if not, a car-based SUV is a more rewarding drive and a better value.

May 18th, 2005 02:20 PM #108In my IMHO Fortuner Will fit the description
"best bang for your buck" car because where can you find people mover ,a minivan, an elegant looking suv, an off roader and a utulity car rolled into one.If your want an all around vehicle to bring you to a party at Forbes park or to the boondocks ,this thing will leisurely do it and with style.

I notice also that diff on aircon of Innova and Fortuner is that second row seats has no vents only on the third row... then the HU of Fortuner has 6-disc CD Changer as compared to Innova which is single disc.. then mukhang maiksi ang dashboard ng Fortuner as against Innova...
WBR, ;)
Is it just me or have traffic worsened this week compared to pre-Holy Week? Is it because people...
