Last January, I went to a Toyota dealership to inquire for an AWD RAV4.

They told me the line was long and I needed to put up a 10 percent non-refundable downpayment should I change my mind.

And I had to wait like 2 to 3 months for delivery.

I had the impression that it sells like hot cake and the supply can’t keep up with demand.

I guess the dealer just want to scheme you out of that non-refundable 10%. ToyotaPH already announced prior that they won't be bringing in the RAV4 AWD as the prior generation AWD model sales were minimal. Unless such a dealer will bring in gray units from the US.

why ask for a non-refundable down payment on a car that is supposedly selling like hot cakes?
and why agree, if it won't put you ahead of the line?
unless! as egan said, "they're gonna sell you a grey market"...

    go to another dealership, siguro.
i hope the gimmick is not toyota-wide.

    Precisely what I did.

    Another dealership, but not Toyota.

With the benefit of hindsight now, imagine if I made an order that time .

Dadalhin kaya dito? If they can offer it at a lower price than a WRX, then it will be worth it.

If Toyota PH will bring it here as a sedan form, This will be a serious competition against the Civic RS turbo.

    Ride for the night:

Direct competitor is obviously the Civic 1.8E. In fairness, the 12th gen Altis 1.6V has stepped up quite significantly vs the 11th gen.

    Pros:
    - Looks more elegant than its predecessor. The 11th has more striking looks but I don't think it will age as well as the 10th or the 12th.
    - Has features not present in the Civic 1.8E - leather power-adjustable seats, 7 airbags, LED fogs, parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers
    - Rims are the correct size for the body - the 17s look very nice already, not like the Civic which looks hideous with the stock 16s

    Cons:
    - Still does not drive anywhere as good as a Civic. Less power, less planted handling, CVT less responsive
    - Head unit is awfully outdated - too small for the enclosure, no Android Auto or Apple Carplay
    - Feels less roomy than both a Civic (which is wider and longer) and even the 11th gen (due to lower roofline)
    - No remote engine start and parking guide on the rear camera
    - Civic is still more of a headturner (especially with appropriate 18" rims) both inside and out
