The standard spiel is that you should bring your car every 3 months or 5,000 km, whichever comes first.
However, Toyota generally honors that you just follow the kilometrage instead of the duration. That is, it's ok to exceed 3 months as long as you bring your car in every 5,000 km.
Also, despite the 5,000 km interval (vs Honda's 10,000 km), you don't really spend much. If you get fully synthetic oil, you only change your oil every 10,000 km. On the 5,000 km checkup, you only top up your oil and replace your filter.
More than the brand, it's the specific dealership as well as your knowledge (or lack thereof) that will lead to high PMS costs. Some dealerships really charge higher when it comes to labor. Some service advisors will also bill you with additional unnecessary services (engine treatment, detailing, additives, etc) unless you specify that you don't want them. These things can double your PMS costs if you don't watch out for them.

Good luck in buying your first car. Between the Sylphy and the Altis, the Sylphy comes out significantly cheaper after discounts, but that's about it.
It's not exactly better than the Altis, just cheaper. The Altis drives better, looks better, has more verve in its engine, will have much better resale value and out-of-casa parts availability, with a more revered brand, and of course, it doesn't have an awkward name.
Of course, price is a very big factor - you can get a Sylphy 1.8V for the price of an Altis 1.6G, and between the two, the TOTL Sylphy offers better value for money.
At the end of the day though, follow your heart. Your decision will not always be entirely objective, but that's fine. What's important is you get the car that'd make you happy.

In terms on looks I like the Mazda 3. Isn't it about the same cost as the Altis? P965? The stock White Mazda 3 in our office parking makes me wish I had one. hay.

January 13th, 2016 12:12 AM #3987Yes sir, Altis really is my first choice, 2nd option lang Nissan Sylphy since marami ako naririnig na good feedback dito sa feedback regarding it, pero mas kursunada ko talaga Altis from the start.. Since it's a long term commitment, better to avail yung talagang gusto ko. Kaya Altis na hehehe, Di na kinaya ng budget ang Altis G so Altis E na lang ang kukunin ko.. 240k DP All in 13k+ monthly for 60 months, is that a good deal na? Thank you..

965k for the specs equivalent to the Altis 1.6V (1.014M). If you include Yojin 3, it comes out as a really good bargain.
Very cramped compared to the Altis though. The small space isn't really a deal breaker for me, but the awful digital tachometer is. It may seem like a small thing but that digital tach pisses me off every time I see it. Rims are also too tiny to be taken seriously (though the same can be said with the small 16" rims of the Altis on its fat body, at least the Altis does look more respectable when stock compared to the Mazda 3 1.5V).
Am not a fan of the Altis CVT nor the shortchanged feel of the Mazda 3 1.5, so instead of buying either of the 2, I'd rather get an ASX for just 100k more.

Does that deal already include insurance? It's a bit high with a 27% interest over 5 years (12% p.a.) if it doesn't have insurance yet. Usually people get their interest at around the 25% range. Maybe you can try scouting other banks for better rates, and haggle for a discount with different Toyota dealers.
I don't normally suggest exceeding your planned budget, but the G is really a better buy than the E for only 43k more. You get the ff:
- automatic climate control
- different gauge cluster (with a more sophisticated MID and an actual temp gauge)
- fog lamps
- keyless entry
- 60/40 folding rear seats
- beige interior (classier, though the grey interior of the E looks easier to maintain)
- steering wheel audio controls
- leather steering wheel
- leather shift knob
- variable-intermittent wipers
- rear armrest with cupholders
Most of those things aren't available as aftermarket upgrades. Of course, if your budget really doesn't permit, the 1.6E is fine as well. Still a better car than the Sylphy 1.6 MT, but of course the Sylphy is cheaper.

Blue-labeled Motolite Gold are factory-supplied OEM batteries with only 1 year warranty.
Cheaper brands than Motolite but reliable as well
