July 31st, 2006 12:07 AM #1This is my first post.
I just bought a hilux j 2.5l 4x2 but i'm not satisfied with the looks.I know I should have bought the 4x4 but my budget is less than 1m, that is why i need your help to where i can buy the overfender that a 4x4 has, how, where or which do you recommend body lift or suspension lift. Or, can it has the same look as the 4x4 model if you change the mags and tires.
I want it to look like a 4x4 model.

Fender flare/overvenders are available from the dealer at an insane amount (around Php40k?)
You can get non-oem fender flares from other shops like Carryboy (if they stock it already), RIDE, Armark, and other reputable off-road shops. However, if you will put on flares without widening your tires and wheels, your vehicle will look odd. Flares don't necessarily make the off-road look. A perfect example of this is the Strada GLX. No flares but looks off-road ready nonetheless.
www.arb.com.au and www.tjm.com.au makes stuff for Hiluxes including suspensions. But I doubt if their upgrades will give you a lift as high as the 4x4's. Body lifts are available from off-road shops. Armark in San Juan and 199 Off Road House in Tondo has 'em.
Btw, TJM is distributed by ARMARK, ARB (and Old Man Emu) is distributed by RATS (Katipunan, Alabang, etc.).

I guess they don't have a prerunner version of the Hilux being sold in the Philippines, it's basically a 4x2 with 4x4 suspension lift and a locking rear differential. What is the front suspension for the Hilux and is the rear a spring over axle or spring under axle?

sir why not convert it to 'street truck' instead? i know, folks this may seem a crazy idea- but there are few of these types. but i guess this would save you a lot of $$$
because all you need is to lower down the truck and find a bling-bling rims.
or, sell you hilux and buy a 4X2 Dmax! hehehe. joke only...

July 31st, 2006 04:37 PM #7Just a caution a friend of mine had his 4x2 frontier lifted. It became higher than the 4x4 version. Ganda ng porma. But the ball joints and other suspension parts wore out faster. I suggest you change the rims and tires to a bigger size. since your pick up is still in its warranty stage.

ARB does not offer a suspension kit for the new 4x2 hi-lux.
your best bet is body lift, front coil spring spacers and longer rear shackles.
Carryboy does have fender flares but different design from the 4x4.

Well, back to the topic...
I think its quite expensive to make the J look like a G variant. May as well buy the G if you got the budget.
1. First you got to add fender flares and paint them body color.
2. Add a chrome rear bumper (the J does not have a rear bumper).
3. Upgrade your wheels and tires (while you're at it might as well get one like the Fortuner-if like the stock look).
4. Do a body lift or is that what its called?
5. Add a stepboard
6. Add chrome covers on both side mirrors.
7. Add chrome inserts on front grill
8. Add chrome insert on door handle
9. Add front fog lamps.
10. Add high mount stop light on tail gate.
12. Paint the gray front bumper, body color.
Ok, I may be missing some more items but that's just to make the exterior look like the G variant.

i guess with all the modifications that you'll be doing will result to more than the price of a 4X4 hilux..
For a 7-seater under 1 million, the Suzuki Ertiga is definitely one of the best options — it’s...
Best car worth 1million and below
