Hmmm... In my experience, a true speed limiter allows the engine to hit the max speed, but then almost instantaneously cut the fuel so that you automatically slow down. For instance my Mom's 3.0 V6 tribute (max 180kph) and my old Exped 4.6L Triton V8 (max 160kph). When you reach 180 and 160, respectively, fuel gets cut such that you go down to about 175 and 155. in your friend's case, baka kulang lang sa bwelo.
That's a gray market Prado with a petrol engine. I don't think the Turbo diesel/D4D versions (especially the TMPI units) are priced below that.

December 3rd, 2010 12:31 AM #206i did not see it in todays inquirer. which paper carried the ad?
what spec is tmpi offering for the 4.0 liter gasoline? malamang different engine only. if tmpi releases a fully loaded 4.0 liter gas version, my fearless forecast is its going to be a runaway hit even if its a 4 liter gasoline engine

December 3rd, 2010 08:07 AM #208I am guessing the only diff between the tmpi diesel and tmpi 4.0 gasoline will be the engine. all else should remain the same. tmpi will not undercut its own models at both price and specs level.
to begin with, it was outrageous for tmpi to increase prado's price from 2.5m (introductory offer in the mid 2000's) to 3.6m today. the exchange rate would not have justified it, only their profit margins would have. but then again i recall tmpi saying they were surprised by the strong demand of the new prado at launch last year. a year later, i see only a handful of prados on the road, a lot of lc200 though. if they can cut prado's price by almost 900k, why is it the lc 200's price was reduced by 500k only when its value is supposedly higher?
i think given some time to unload their existing inventory, the grey market dealers should be able to match tmpi's pricing for the 4.0 liter prado. expect grey market dealers to offer a cheaper 2.7 liter gasoline engine prado next year.
i remember the previous gen prado sold for 2.3-2.4m for the 2.7 liter gasoline and 3.1m for the top if the line 4.0 liter gasoline engine. this was when tmpi price was 2.55m for the 3.0 liter diesel engine.

One can only hope.
Cheaper brands than Motolite but reliable as well
