I've been experiencing squeaks whenever I brake, even when I don't come from wet places. I've already replaced the brake pads but the sound did not stop. So I'm thinking of either having the brakes refaced or buying a surplus set of bigger discs.
For those who have done this, how much did it cost you? Is it also safe? I'm going for the cheaper option actually.
Thanks

Brake refacing is usually safe, but if the discs are warped beyond a certain point, it won't be long before you have to do it again. The shop will usually tell you if your discs can still be refaced.
For me, it's often better to get new discs if you need to... and only reface if you still can't afford new ones yet.

350 yata per disk in banawe (sprint). had my rear solid discs done there. might be more expensive for vented disks.
that said, less than 2000 ang brand new na solid disc. mas mura pa rin reface by a mile.

March 11th, 2006 12:31 AM #4Nung nagpalit ng brake pads naglagay ba ng high temp grease sa likod ng pad at sa shims? kung nde yun ang most likely cause ng squeaking sound. Highly unlikely na warped or kelangan palitan rotors mo.

i had my drums refaced at servitek (actually any servitek or yokohama shops will do a fine job) when i had my front and back brakes replaced...well ngayon im having the same problem as yours but i just ignore it..hehehe...nawawala ren naman eh. i don't think it will be solved by having them refaced. it's more of a brake shoe/pad problem IMO -- could be just brake dusts?

have also the same problem. pero pag nakatakbo na yung car mga 100 meters nawawala rin. i already had the disc brake clean pero nandyan parin ang squeking sound. sabi ng mechanic kailangan na raw pa reface yung disc. ano ba ang bad effect (beside the irritating squeak sound) nito pag hindi ko pina reface?

sir, dont buy surplus, buy brand new, lalo na brakes, tires. etc. (just a opinion)

if you get pulsing on the brake pedal during light braking, that means too much runout in the disc, and it has to be replaced or refaced.
squeaky taxi noises.. could be a reface is needed (the disc becomes glazed, but just after a reface it has a matte finish and is a bit rough) or maybe just high-temp grease or brake system cleaner.
Mahilig kasi sa profit ang ford. Strategy yan na huwag gawing matibay ang mga parts para maraming...
