Iba ang electronics ng Subaru natin dito, otherwise nag pakabit na sana ako nung Subaru motion sensor (USDM) sa Impreza ko. Kaso di pwede, dahil di compatible sa programming.
I never had a car na may motion alarm, pero if you want one, better consult with Motor Image dahil once na tap electronics nyan, issue sa warranty.
If third party magkabit, make sure alam nila Subaru electronics, hindi yung basta sa Banawe lang...

September 8th, 2010 06:49 PM #632Thank you for your replies arnoldc and imperialv. Sir arnold dont you ever get concerned your cars might get broken into? Whether or not valuables do get stolen, hassle pa rin diba. Sorry am i the only one worrying?
But in all honesty, I feel my concern is valid.

September 9th, 2010 01:58 AM #633With traditional gasoline motors yes regular fuel in an engine that requires premium can do actual damage to your engine. With the Subaru boxer (turbo engines) engines, the ECU has some additional counter measures that it can use to prevent some damage but the result is poor fuel economy and loss of power
The damage that can occur is from pre-ignition when the fuel actually ignites when the piston is still on it's compression stroke. This forces the piston to fight the explosion pushing it upwards before reach the top of it's stroke and returning downwards again. The huge pressures generated when this sort of thing happens can blow head gaskets, bend connecting rods and do other serious damage. Again, this damage is unlikely in a subaru boxer engine as the ECU can simply inject the fuel later in the stroke to prevent such damage, however when you do this much of the energy from combustion goes right out of the exhaust, thus the loss of fuel efficiency and power.
Long story short, the loss of power and fuel economy that will result from using lower octane fuel will be so great as to outweigh the cost benefit of using the cheaper fuel.... Just use premium, let your engine work as it was designed and you will be happier ( so will your engine!)

*blackandwhite, oh yes very much valid, please don't get me wrong. As I said, I almost bought the USDM motion sensor, but after research, I came to know it wouldn't work.
So you really need to work with MI on that if you opt for 3rd party. I suggest you pay Alvin (MI service) a visit. He's helpful naman, but also brutally honest about what might happen to the car, and/or the warranty.
I make it a point that mods in my car are done by MI, para malinaw when it comes to service and warranty
