More graphic pics. It occurred 2k mi after recall. Only mods were factory approved TRD intake & exhaust...the only aftermarket item added was a kenwood nav.

April 12th, 2019 11:32 AM #14This recall thing sucks, but I appreciate that Subaru had the balls to make it official. Some brands just stay quiet and wait for lawsuits before taking mass action.
Brought in my XV for the valve spring replacement. Hopefully it doesn't blow up like all those 86s. Haven't read any problems from other XV/Crosstrek owners anyway. Bonus is that they replace the oil and filter for free with the recall. Sinabay ko na rin yung ibang PMS items.

April 12th, 2019 02:09 PM #16They first mailed a letter saying that my unit was affected and that they would contact me again when parts become available. They sent a second later when they were ready to do the service. Only Subaru Pasig and Manila Bay have the capability to do the fix.
Mahaba pila sa Pasig. When I called, November na ang next schedule. Sa Manila Bay, around 1 month ata ang waiting time.

April 29th, 2019 05:03 PM #17So I got my car back from MI Manila Bay. Brought it in on Thursday and got it out by Wednesday morning. Not too bad.
No funny sounds and haven't blown up yet after two weeks so it looks like they did a good job.
On a somewhat related note: I was having my bushings replaced like I mentioned in the other thread and I ended up chatting with a Toyota 86 owner who was also there. I asked if he was aware of this valve spring thing, and he said that he was. He thought that his 2013 86 (same year as my XV) should be part of the recall, but there was no letter or anything from Toyota PH. He went to his dealer to ask specifically, but they said that his wasn't included (even though they didn't even look up his VIN).
Must be a bliss to drive around Metro Manila now
