February 28th, 2008 10:14 AM #14I learned how to solve this back in college. I still remember the moves. The trick is not to solve it by sides, but by layers. Knowing how it's done does take the "magic" out of the experience, as in "Eh? Ganun lang yun?" Pero ok lang din, it's still enough to impress some people. "Wow, ang galing-galing mo naman!"

our ten year old nagyabang pa eh. sabi "8 minutes na'ko dyan" sabi ko, -nga tyman ko. anyway he did it at about 23min. hehehe. then katwiran nya eh kasi halos walang tinginan naman yun eh. then he explain na ganito yun.. ito pattern pag ganun.. etc.. etc.
kaya pag kabisado na pattern eh automatic na kilos.
ngayon sinusubukan nila ang 5-layers -magic cube- yata tawag. di gaya ng rubik's na 3-layers lang.

Yung anak ng officemate ko consistently can solve Rubik's cube in less than 23 secs. In-upload pa nga niya sa Youtube (keyword: Nico Elayda). According to my officemate, his son's personal best is under 18 secs.
As for me, 1 side lang talaga kaya ko (mga 15 mins. siguro).

The best known algorithm for solving the cube needs only 26 face turns. It is described in the article
Kunkle, D.; Cooperman, C. (2007): Twenty-Six Moves Suffice for Rubik's Cube. Proceedings of the International Symposium on Symbolic and Algebraic Computation (ISSAC '07), ACM Press. DETAILS
The most expensive Rubik's Cube was the Masterpiece Cube, produced by Diamond Cutters International in 1995. The actual-size, fully functional cube features 22.5 karats of amethyst, 34 karats of rubies, and 34 karats of emeralds, all set in 18-karat gold. It has been valued at about US-$ 1.5 mio.
The youngest person who solved a Rubik's Cube in a competition was Enxi Xie (China), who was 4 years 6 months 10 days old when he solved the cube in 1:28.06 minutes at the Guangdong Open 2007. 4x4x4 CUBE
