Ford today announced the end their Formula One programme with Jaguar. The F1 squad will not be re-branded as Ford as previously rumoured, but in fact is to be sold.
Cosworth engineering will no longer receive a Ford subsidy, throwing into doubt the supply of engines to both Minardi and Jordan Grand Prix.
A statement from Ford
Ford (to) exit from Formula One racing activities, including the sale of those operations. The personnel reductions and the Formula One decision together are estimated to result in a charge to pre-tax income of approximately $450 million. Of this, it is expected that approximately $375 million of these charges are to occur this year, with the remainder occurring next year.

Sayang! I hope someone comes in and buys Jaguar...
I've seen them get their 1st win in F1 during their Stewart Ford days with Johnny Herbert and Rubens Barichello.

Ford pulls the plug on Formula One
A black day for the sport
Ford announced earlier today that they are to pull out of Formula One. As a result, the Jaguar Racing team is for sale and the sport has been thrown into turmoil.
Unless the team is sold, only 18 cars will line up on the grid for the Australian Grand Prix next year, two less than the minimum required by the existing Concorde agreement. This could require some teams to run a third car to satisfy existing contracts.
With Ford no longer financing the Cosworth engine programme, both Minardi and Jordan may face the task of finding additional funding for use of the existing Cosworth engines, or an alternate engine supply for 2005. The situation is not clear.
Christian Klien faces the prospect of not racing next season, while the staff at Jaguar Racing head into an uncertain winter as they either look for alternative employment or wait and hope the team is purchased.
It is a black day for Formula One with more questions than there are answers

Hmmm. pwede sila bilhin ng Volkswagen group, then they could use the Lamborghini brand or the Audi brand para sa F1 team.

September 18th, 2004 06:49 PM #6hhmmm..perhaps it makes business sense for ford to limit its involvement with anything jaguars..it's now public knowledge 1,150 briton workers are about to receive their final pay-off after ford dropped the curtain down on its jaguar coventry plant in england putting a gloomy outlook for the once illustrious high-end cars of the world..
it's a drain on its pocket how jaguar sales performance reflect on ford's balance sheet..that goes without saying for F1 venture as well..

November 16th, 2004 01:34 PM #9Changing Hands: Red Bull buys Jaguar Formula One team, will run '05 schedule
AUTOWEEK
Posted Date: 11/15/04
Energy drink company Red Bull GmbH purchased the Jaguar Formula One team from Ford, Red Bull officials announced. The deal includes all the Jag F1 team’s assets, including the headquarters in Milton Keynes, England, and wind tunnel and test facilities in Bicester and Bedford. The new team will be called Red Bull Racing. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but word is Ford was looking for just a token amount in return for the buyer assuming the team’s running costs.
The team will run next year’s F1 schedule with Cosworth-powered cars. Champ Car co-owner Kevin Kalkhoven confirmed his purchase of Cosworth (AW, Nov. 15).
Red Bull officials said they have asked team principal Tony Purnell and managing director David Pitchforth to stay.
“Our move to fully owning a Formula One team makes good business sense for Red Bull,” said owner Dietrich Mateschitz in a statement.
Red Bull will begin testing for the 2005 season Nov. 24-26 in Barcelona and at Jerez Dec. 1-3 and 8-11.
Officials said a driver lineup will be announced after the first of the year.
