February 20th, 2006 03:35 PM #1Here are the common symptoms i gathered from this site and some other sites.
1. Excessive oil sputtering from opened oil filler
2. Smoke comming out from oil filler and dip stick
3. Oil sputtering coming from dip stick hole
4. Traces of oil from breather hose
5. Excessive exhaust smoke
6. Traces of oil in H20 reservoir/radiator
7. Traces of oil in exhaust pipe
8. Loss of power
9. Overheating
10. Unusually high fuel comsumption
11. Loose compression reading
Ride: Pajero '95 TDIC
- Oil sputtering coming from dip stick hole
- Compression reading performed by auto teknika - 400, 420, 400, 425
- Difference bet highest and lowest reading is only 25 w/c is within 44
- Lowest reading is still 400 which is way above minimum of 278
- All other 10 symptoms are negative.
What's your opinion? Does it need overhaul or what?

oks pa yan. if youre not consuming oil and you passed hte comp test, then your engine is fine.

also mine a a little Oil sputtering coming from dip stick hole. But not yet consume oil. No smoke also.

another test in blowby engine,on engine running. slightly pull or push the acelarator cable in the injection pump in order to make a rev.but first open the radiator cap..in order to see any bubbly water caming out in the radaitor while reving..this shows that your engine is inbalance of water,air,oil and fuel. used this method also in overheatengine

its true oil sputtering in the dipstick is way normal..
another thing on blowby diesel engine..
when you see a white smoke in your tailpipe during reving (like tricylcle smoke)

what's the 'passing' mark sa compression test? pag below 300 ba ang isang butas may loose compression na?

I think it depends on the engine. For example, 4JA1's default compression is 31 kg/cm2 or 441 1/3 psi/kPa - 200rpm. I think the shops like Autoteknika that does the testing has a copy of the Engine's specs.
According to wikipedia:
"See www.pumaracing.co.uk for compression test method. First conduct a 'dry test' and then a 'wet test'. The dry/wet readings must be very close to each other. To do a dry test, unplug the sparkplugs for petrol and remove the glowplugs on a diesel engine. Place compression tester inside glowplug and crank engine 10 times till the needle indicates maximum compression. Note this reading and write it down. Repeat test for remaing three cylinders. All four readings must be within 10% of the vehicle specs and very close to each other. Should a reading be out, insert 10ml engine oil into the glowplug and repeat compression test. The oil seals any faulty rings. Should the reading differ from the dry reading, it indicates a failing ring. Above sea level the compression readings on all four pistons must be within 80% of the specs."
Not just the engine. It's literally a D-Max with Mazda styling, but everything mechanical is Isuzu....
