We probably already paid for it.... remember that MERALCO recently required an "ADVANCED DEPOSIT" for it's subscribers? Given that, we already paid for the Tesla S, the fleet of e-jeepneys in the Meralco compound and the charging station in MERALCO (and the home charging station at Manny Pangalinan's home too).

pero unlike CNG vehicles pwede i-charge ang electric car bahay
so i think it's not the absence of charging stations that discourages people from buying electric cars
it could be price, driving distance...

Yep pwede sa bahay pero slooooooow. Parang yung isang episode sa Top Gear na nag long distance sila using e-cars. Nanghihiram pa sila ng extension cord sa mga bahay at buong araw silang tumatambay

August 1st, 2013 01:29 PM #17Hmm, di ba pwede sa household outlet yung recharging? If not, it won't matter how fast those e-cars can go, the range will be limited by how many recharging stations there are.
What's more, both e-car and recharging station would be specially vulnerable to flooding -- i hope they grounded the recharging station real good.
Regarding the charging time: one solution would be to have a number of fully charged batteries on standby, then swap in/out na lang -- assuming it's that easy to do so. But even then, there'd be issues about who owns the battery, the quality of batteries being swapped in/out, who pays for when the battery conks out, etc.

“The goal was to make the switch of a battery faster than filling your tank,” Agassi told the audience, which included Denmark’s and Israel’s ambassadors to Japan. “We have seen this device work in under 40 seconds in our shop.”

EV cars aren't as big as a problem as CNG vehicles. At worst, you can just have an extension cord attached to your EV-car so you can charge beyond a certified charging station. The benefit of a certified charging station is able to "fast charge" an EV car so you can get around 60 to 70% charge level in a couple of hours (instead of waiting 6 to 8 hours).
It is possible to recharge an EV-car at your home using house-hold plug. It just takes a long time to get a full charge if the car is near 0% charge level.
