But the original Beetle's weight was around 1,500 lbs? What about the VinFas VF 3? Around 2,500 lbs?

electric horses are very different from gasoline horses

i've test driven the jetour ice cream which is a similar car. definitely not fast but perfectly adequate. and zero to 50kph is actually pretty decent. felt less peppy than a nissan kicks epower. a lot less peppy than byd dolphin.

launching today! lots of quirks though

    -one airbag only

-no hood release lever. you need to unbolt the hood to open it

    -rear seat not split fold

-you don't twist the key to start, but you need to insert the fob into a slot to start the car i.e. you can't leave it inside your pocket

-wiper stalk is transmission selector instead. button at the tip is EPB (yeah it has epb when cable brakes would've been cheaper). wiper functions are integrated into the left stalk

    so... (1191/548000) * 322000 = approx 700k pesos

if we substitute vf5 discounted price: (1042/548000)*322000 = 612k pesos

so based on vf5 ph pricing the vf3 non-lease should be 700k

    carguide . ph:
The VinFast VF 3 is now available at a special introductory price of PHP 605,000 (with a battery subscription). For those who prefer to have the battery included, the price goes up to PHP 705,000. After the special period, the suggested retail price will revert to PHP 645,000 (battery subscription) and PHP 745,000 (battery included). Moreover, from Sept 14 - 30, early customers will only need to shell out an extra PHP 40,000 to customize their car's paint beyond the available nine colors.

so i was only off by 5k

While EPB and wiper stalk style AT shifters aren't new (Mercedes E-class had that style of shifter since 2014) having the park gear position and the EPB share the same button is very weird.

They either saved more money/production time in consolidating switchgear than sticking to cable hand brakes or the VF3 has no parking pawl/Park Gear and they are using the EPB to emulate the function

"Limited special offer" is supposedly until Sept. 30 only. SRP's post that date will be ₱645,000 for the battery subscription model and ₱745,000 with the battery included.

    Warranties
    • Bumper-to-bumper: 7 years / 160,000 km
    • Battery warranty: 8 years / unlimited mileage
    • Subscription plan: free maintenance / battery replacement if the battery capacity drops below 70 percent

    Battery lease cost
    • Less than 1,500 km per month: ₱2,800 monthly
    • 1,500 to 2,500 km per month: ₱3,800 monthly
    • More than 2,500 km per month: ₱6,300 monthly

Note: so far, the PH is the only country outside Vietnam to have the VF3 but Vinfast is planning to release it to more countries in 2025.

Battery lease pricing is weird ... who would get this if ROI for purchasing a battery compared to leasing is just 3 years ... are they expecting the battery to fail by then? ... this would be an alternative to a golf cart for going around subdivision ...

that explanation makes sense. i don't think there's a parking pawl in there so they got to have the parking brake activate automatically i.e. can't rely on the user to activate cable brake

yeah i'm sure there's a few lines of code that prevents that. it's all software anyway i.e. the shifter is a just a switch and the EV drivetrain doesn't have a physical reverse gear

Most likely to save space up front because the car is narrow.
