December 17th, 2018 03:43 PM #911Just got back from Nissan NE. Saw your Sylphy there krazeyrock.
Regarding my issue after the mechanical repairs done last time. Here is what I noticed after 10 days of driving after the car was returned to me.
1) They removed the battery terminal connectors to do the repairs. The only proof I have is the Radio was reset.
2) After I got the car back, I noticed the revving of the car seemed different than normal. My rpms tended to stay below 1500rpm when coasting/driving with bursts of around 2000rpm when I start my acceleration say from full stop or executing a U Turn. After the repair was done, I noticed I was usually now hovering at 1500rpm to 1800rpm at "lower gears of assumed/simulated first and second" then it only goes to similar rev behavior when I'm in higher gears say coasting on EDSA.
3) When stopped on inclines and I try to start accelerating, I usually needed to just kick the rpm to around 2000rpm, now though, it needed to be higher, almost as if I was being put in 2nd gear rather than first. There was also one instance when I stopped on an incline of an intersection, and after depressing the pedal, I still rolled backwards and had to execute the "climb" over a thin layer of asphalt that was acting like a hump with the good old handbrake and hold the rev to at least 2000rpm then release handbrake.
4) Usually, when going down parking ramps, I shift the car to L. That way it keeps first gear and I rarely/barely have to apply any brakes at all. But over the weekend, even on a gentle sloping circular ramp, it was still accelerating (as if in 2nd gear) so I had to constantly apply the brakes.
So... I suspected it was a similar situation with my Honda City 1.3 i-Dsi CVT. Honda adviced that if the battery dies/is removed without the car running, chances are, you will need a CVT reflash/reset to be done to make sure the transmission behaves properly.
Went over to Nissan NE and told them my observation. I know it is not technically an error but I insisted to do something like a reset to the car as there are issues to the performance, especially on inclines.
They did not have anything like a CVT reset which was surprising to me given Honda does it even back in 2008. They told me they usually only do CVT reset when you change transmission fluid of the CVT. If not a reset, I asked maybe they could do something about engine braking settings of the CVT to restore it to the way it was and rev control when on an incline.
The solution, they reflashed/updated my CVT's computer code (well, it is what I was told)
I haven't driven it on parking ramps yet but from my short drive back, it is performing as before now. FYI.

December 26th, 2018 09:43 PM #912Oh my...
I replaced the battery twice, just this year and 2016 since it fails to start. I just did a plug and play as with my previous cars. I didn't know that there is a need for a CVT reset, I just read it once on the Honda Jazz forums.
And yes, it is confirmed, whole CVT replacement is needed. There is also another Sylphy there that is undergoing a warranty claim for CVT, good for him that it is covered. As to my unit, the SA is doing his part on asking Nissan Philippines to cover it even if the unit is out of warranty since it only ran 31,000km.
I hope I could have a feedback next week since it is already their holiday break (Nissan Philippines).

December 30th, 2018 10:57 AM #913Wow! Dami palang problem ng Sylphy. Sa awa ng Diyos, okay naman sa akin. Every 3months ang maintenance ng kotse ko, follow ko lang sa schedule sa manual. Sa Nissan shop ko talaga dinadala. Last June ko lang pinalitan battery ko at January naman yung tires since I bought it in March 2013. It’s 2013 Sentra SL [US] at nasa 52K miles na or 84K km.

January 21st, 2019 10:08 AM #918This is just to update my recent mixed/highway FC for the Sylphy 1.6CVT.
Recently drove to the South (Batangas) from Manila with a detour to Cavite (Tagaytay) Area. All in all, total distance travelled was about +/- 320kms.
Reading on the FC display showed the range hover around 15km/l (low) to 16.5km/l (high) during the highway stint as the average.
Once I got back to the City (Metro Manila), it dropped down close to 13.5km/l to 14km/l.
Roughly, percentage of total travel done in the city was about 40%, but since I did leave earlier than norm, the distance traveled that was in traffic (around 20kph max speed) was about 20% of the total distance covered.
Still happy with the car, though I do notice the shifting characteristics change with the car whenever I use L (low gear). Once I get back down to "flat lands" the shifting feels a little rougher or have some type of "over drive" left over from the mountain drive of uphill/downhill moments.
It tends to "refresh" and go back to normal after a full restart.
To note: I am no longer on Stock Bridgestone Ecopias that came with the car. I have replaced them with Yokohama BluEarth tires. Based on the tire calculator, overall tire change was (-4%) to the new tires. So my FC may be slightly lower from the readings by that much as well.
To my experience, the less idle time (stuck with 0 kph with engine running), the more accurate the reading of the FC Display is (checked with full tank top up method, manual compute, same gas station, same pump). Once I start to idle longer than what is "normal", the FC display usually shows a reading of at least +0.5km/l higher than what a manual computation returns.
Using 95RON Euro 5 from Unioil exclusively for my Sylphy as well.
Average speed on the Highway usually maintaining a high of 80kph only, rarely a burst to 100kph unless absolutely necessary to overtake some car with awkward speed on the highway or unable to keep consistent coasting speed in front of me. =)

March 2nd, 2019 01:33 PM #919I'm excited to get my Sylphy back on Monday, hopefully. The new transimission is installed as of yesterday. Today, they will fill it with CVT fluid and have it road tested. If there won't be any problem, I can get it by Monday afternoon. After me is another white Sylphy having its CVT replaced. So far, I guess we are the last one that would encounter this kind of problem.
In fairness to Nissan North Edsa, they really did their best insisting to Nissan Philippines to have my CVT replaced at no cost. I am still crossing my fingers if that would also include the CVT fluid (costing above 10k) under their goodwill warranty.
Still, this is a good car and hopefully it will now last for a long time.

March 2nd, 2019 11:21 PM #920That's good to hear that Nissan NE is helping trying to make a claim. I actually like the service Nissan NE extends during and after service so I can only say it is a good experience.
Re your CVT, it would be nice if we find out why it failed? Did they find out whether it was a manufacturing defect? Or was it conditions that they did not originally anticipate for the CVT's design? I am just curious.
Blue-labeled Motolite Gold are factory-supplied OEM batteries with only 1 year warranty.
Cheaper brands than Motolite but reliable as well
