December 4th, 2018 05:17 PM #901Per Nissan NE, here is what I got from the diagnosis they did.
Regarding the compressor/aircon issue, the Aux Fan is busted and needs to be replaced.
Per the idling issue, they found there is a current leak with the ignition coils so they need to be replaced as well.
There are some misc items like gaskets, adapter that will need to be replaced to get to the coils per what the work will entail according to Nissan,
Well, hopefully that resolves the issue.

December 8th, 2018 04:27 PM #904Yup. Actually considering the Terra and Xtrail as options for the future.
I mean, the Montero's Aux Fan also has broken down before so I don't consider this as a big issue. Things break. What's important is the main mechanical components continue working in order.
So hope that answers your question.
If the issue is the car dying, I mean, it was worrisome if placed in a different scenario/situation but also got to consider that the temps of the compressor were rising faster due to me slowly moving only/crawling after going thru traffic. So if I was moving at cruising speed, i would assume the compressor would never have overheated then.
If it was shutting down as a form of overheat protection for components outside the control of the loops connected to the coolant/radiator, I call that a good thing. My compressor was not replaced and is working fine (for now). So I'm assuming it wasn't damaged because of the overheat protection.
As for the ignition coils having a "current leak". I mean I dont really know how to approach it but it was needed to be done per Nissan NE. Part of me didn't want to have it done because the erratic idling only happened when the compressor was too hot already. But part of me thought I'd rather not risk it and the idling issue may have only presented early at that time as well. So better to have it fixed early and mitigate any further damage to other components than scrimp now and regret later.

December 16th, 2018 07:13 PM #908My Sylphy 1.8 started to have a transmission problem.
While on our way to Pangasinan last Thursday, the RPM started to be erratic, going 3,500 RPM to 2,000 RPM mulitple times.
Check engine lights went on. This is the sad part.
Then when we slow down, the gear seems to be stuck in 4th gear. Upon arriving in Pangasinan, we can't even climb the bridge since the gear
is still high and the RPM won't get pass 2,000.
The only fix is to shutdown the engine for a minute then it will be on a lower gear for a while.
We return to Manila that day and on our way back, the gear seems to be stuck in 3rd now since the RPM is 3,500 but we are doing 80 to 90kph.
Upon reaching NLEX we decided to stop on the shell station after SCTEX to have some rest. After 30 minutes, we decided to travel again, now
the RPM seems to be stuck at 2,000 and we are doing 60kph all the way home. Good thing that was already pass 11pm and traffic is light since the
car is having a hard time rolling from a complete stop.
Yesterday, I brought the car at Nissan North Edsa around 5am to avoid stop and go traffic. This time the gear seem to be stuck on the 2nd, since the car is
doing 4,000 rpm just to maintain 40 to 50 kph. Well, that is a good thing though since I would not have a hard time from complete stop and approaching bridges.
After the diagnosis, the error from the check engine warning light is pointing at the transmission. They can't clearly tell since they need the whole day to find out
what happen to my car. They will give me a feedback tomorrow. Hopefully, this is a minor repair issue on the transmission and not a complete overhaul or replacement.
The service advisor said to me that they will ask Nissan for some considerations if it comes to a whole transmission problem since my car is just 4 years old and just, 31,300 Km.
I have been diligent on the prescribe PMS schedule, I go for PMS every 6 months with complete oil change. No top ups and fully synthetic all the way. I only run around 8,000 kms a year and this month at around 31,000 kms I was about to have the 35,000km PMS scheduled after Christmas if only this has not happened.
I really love my Sylpy, since it is spacious and the good air conditioning. But now, I am having second thoughts if I would keep it after the repair since the experience in NLEX SCTEX TPLEX is very traumatic for me. Good thing it did not break down at high speed or stop in the middle of the expressway.

December 17th, 2018 11:45 AM #910Am waiting for your update regarding what Nissan NE has to say about your issue.
Regarding your Sylphy, I'm curious since 4 years old, you've surely replaced the battery once (at most twice). Do you start the car first before the battery is changed? Or do you just have the technician change the battery?
If you dont run the car during a battery change, have you ever had Nissan do a CVT computer box reset?
I will need to contact Nissan NE to ask if they did a CVT reset on my car as well during the last mechanical work done as they surely unplugged the battery from the car (radio was reset when I got it). Now, I feel the CVT is not behaving "normally".
I feel the same way. Not a fan.
