2014 mitsubishi montero

I work in Makati and live in Pasay. When I travel home every afternoon, the on-board computer shows a consumption of only 4.5km/L. I know there has always been horrible traffic, but is 4.5km/L the consumption of a diesel engine? Is there something wrong with my car? Could anyone please share your experiences?

did you check if your MID is calibrated? try cruise at a constant speed(using cruise control), then reset the ave. vel. display, it should read almost the same to that of the gps reading(actual ground speed)

the horrible traf is justified but a horrible consumption of 4.5kpl for a diesel like monty is something to be concerned about. One way to confirm this is by manual computation method. Refill to full tank, note your odo--travel until your fuel gauge reads half empty--refill to full, note your odo and liters filled. Subtract the former odo to the latter, the diff divide to the liters filled, result will give you your monty's actual fuel consumption. Well, another method is what sir zix advised. My monty's latest fc is 9.9kpl hway-city mixed. Fuel: unioil with the ff mods: throttle controller (hway set * PO7, city set * PO3), egr blanked, occ. Oil/filter: Top1 HD plus 10w30/Balwin BD28. Air filter: K&N.

Hi Zix, thank you for your advice, I will try to calibrate the MID this weekend, hope it's just the computer.

If you have read my past post, some fins on my Inter-cooler and Condenser were damaged by the power sprayer during a carwash, I've took it to a repair-shop at my friend's place, they told me not to worry about it as it's just a small portion and no leak. Do you think by any chance that this damage has affected my fuel consumption?

Hi leinahtan, thank you for your inputs. I really hope it's just the computer that needs a reset or something. I am concerned about the damage on the fins of my Inter-cooler and Condenser, even though the repair-shops said otherwise.

I have been observing the consumption for a week, when I travel in the morning when there was very light traffic, the highest I got was 8.5km/L, but only around 5km/L every afternoon, the average speed shows like 7km/h, I am not sure if that's accurate.

It hasn't reached 1,000 kms on the clock, I feel bad for my Monty.

As per advise nila why not try manual computation para malaman mo ung tamang fc ni monty para at least magkaidea ka kung pareho sila sa lumalabas sa mid. . .

Sir orttech,

Sa inyo, nasa 4.5KM/L ang nakalagay sa display, sa akin naman, 3.9KM/L ang average ko(city driving lalo pag traffic)...

(GLS-V MT and nasa 7months old na and nasa 355 ang natakbo sa odometer) lalo makati-pasay area at stop-and-go-traffic

using the full tank method, (pag nabawasan na ng 3/4 sa Full, pa-karga na ako ng diesel)
sa 19L of diesel (PHP 800+), nasa 210KMS ang total distance na pwedeng itakbo, (400+pesos sa 105KMS)

(method po ng uncle ko using strada non-VGT, from tacloban to ormoc)..

sa amin naman, from makati to cavite and back and forth, at least, nasa 8trips na balikan bago maubos yung 19L, (23KMS x 8) and weekend driving, walang traffic, pero nasubukan ko po lately na bumayhe ulit na may traffic, reduced sa 1 trip yung FC.

nasa 30mins-45mins ang byahe, lumalabas na nasa 12.1KM/L consumption namin, for normal driving (since nasa break-in period) di maiwasan na umabot sa 120KPH ang takbo, nasa 11.5 naman, + traffic. (85% highway, 15% city)

paano ko po nakuha yung computation?! sa FC,

Sa 19L na karga ko po, divide ko po yung sa total distance simula sa makati, cavite, 23KMS, 23/19 = 1.21052632,

actual FC is 12.1KM/L, kung reduced ko naman sa 1 distance trip, kasama na dyan yung traffic factor, 22/19 = 1.15789474

nasa 11.5 or kung round off ko po, 11.6KM/L, not bad for a 45mins na byahe.

kung longer time sa city driving na traffic, reduced ko lang po lagi ng 1 trip sa FC

kung long distance trip naman, malalaman naman yung FC, sa full tank sa distance, (mas mababa yung liters, kung mas mataas ang liters, mas mababa ang FC)

sa inyo sir orttech, Makati-Pasay distance, balikan for everyday driving...

not mistaken nasa 5KMS yung distance, sa FC ng HU, nasa 3.9KM/L ang display sa monty namin pag traffic lalo na sa buendia simula pasong tamo hanggang harrison, (brasuhan, matira ang matibay, hehehe

)

try nyo po yung full tank method, very accurate po ang computation...dyan nyo po malalaman yung total FC ng monty during driving.
