August 10th, 2007 11:40 PM #13Hehe. One of my few persistent 80s practices (other than -mixed-songs) is to wear top siders/top sider style mocs.

I think I'm reading your post correctly.... Alabang-Zapote Road was only 2 lanes at the time. There were no malls to speak of. There was RFC Supermarket by Dona Manuela Subdivision (where I lived). Later, Fernando's in front of Philamlife Village was built which made 2 supermarkets within walking distance for us.
Alabang-Zapote Road may have been dark. But it was quite safe. I used to ride my 10-speed home along that route. Be it coming from BF Homes International or Moonwalk Village, I had no scary incidents. There were poor folks at Talon. But, that didn't mean they were bad. In fact, I had friends there.
There was a curfew in effect. But, it rarely extended inside the subdivisions. We'd walk very late at night without fear of being assaulted or robbed. In fact, when my wife's female cousins visited and stayed for a year, we'd often walk back and forth between our house and the house they're renting even past midnight. They were in their early teens at the time and their appearance was quite striking (they're practically caucasian) even at a young age. But, they didn't have any incidents either. Maybe it's not so safe now, maybe. But back then, it was very safe.
The big thing was Manuela Cinema along with a Shakeys at one wing of the building.
Another thing I remember is when the current mayor (Aguilar) first moved there. He was quiet. He was skinny (with skinny chicken legs) and very light complexioned. I remember thinking maybe he's related to Freddie Webb at first because he looked like that basketball player.
I also remember pre-mayor Aguilar as being fond of cockfighting and that he kept a bunch of roosters in his backyard. Come 4 am sharp, they all go off. No need for a clock.
He also had a bunch of laborers. I was one of the few "rich" kids who were friendly with them. I played half-court basketball with them on several occasions. I recall enjoying their roughhouse style of play. I got my share of bumps and bruises. But, I gave as good as I got. There used to be a car parts store (next to the eskinita) across Fernando's and had a basketball goal. Once the store closed, the store employees, the mayor's laborers, and I would play 5 vs 5 at the parking lot. We lost a few basketballs when they rolled out into the traffic of the Alabang-Zapote Road.
Of course, soccer is still my first love. I remember practicing/playing scrimmage with several Iranian students at the Philamlife Village park. They taught me a few things which improved my play.
Such a fun time back then, the early 80's.Last edited by Jun aka Pekto; August 11th, 2007 at 12:31 AM.

If you used to watch this popular car T.V. show (like me
) back in the days then you definitely are from that era!
