if you buy bullion, maybe. they do sell 99.999 gold bars in the middle east. i say "maybe", because if prices go down by the time you sell it then you lose money. as of now the price of gold is on the decline. (gold is always high on recession, low when the economy is good. and world economy is supposedly on the rebound)
if you buy jewelry and sell it to individuals for a profit, yes. paiyakan, 4 gives, yun kikita ka ng malaki. any jewelry, or even appliances, basta hulugan kikita ang seller. because not only do you sell at a profit, you do sell at a much higher price. think interest rate ng bumbay. basta huwag ka lang matakbuhan.
but if you buy and keep it, then pawn it, NO. or even keep it immaculate in a box then sell it when you are in need, NO. the buyer will always take advantage of the fact that you need money, so babaratin ka.
babae yung friend mo, TO A WOMAN ANY JEWELRY IS AN INVESTMENT. yun ang mind set nila, because it is something that we menfolks give them and forget (unlike cash that we can get back or borrow if we need to). yung nagsasanla sa tambunting sasabihin niya sa iyo "buti na lang may mga alahas ako...", di nya alam kaya yumaman si tambunting dahil sa mga engot na kagaya nya.

The Philippines won't be following the US' direction anytime soon. Why? Because we don't have a strong and sizeable middle class. Majority of our population can be classified as poor (C,D and E income brackets), and are either unemployed or underemployed. So, they don't have access to credit, much less credit cards. Likewise, until now, there is no centralized credit history database, despite the passage of the CISA law, which mandated the creation of the Credit Information Corporation.
If some idiotic bank decides to provide credit cards to minimum wage earners, baka pwede pang matulad tayo sa Amerika na leveraged ang lifestyle, i.e. nabubuhay sa utang (spend today for gadgets and whatnots via credit card, then worry about payments later). Which is why local banks weathered the liquidity fall-out experienced by Western banks. Conservative pa ang mga banko dito eh, and the BSP is quite stringent. Then we also have to look at the prevailing culture angle. Iba ang Tate sa Pinas. When you have relatively access to credit, falling into the credit trap is likewise quite easy.

:jeanie:
