Gretchen confirms photo kissing John

MANILA, Philippines—Gretchen Barretto confirmed that the photo circulating on the Internet that showed her and actor John Estrada kissing was genuine.

The photo was taken during the birthday party of Rufa Mae Quinto at her house in Quezon City, the ***y actress also confirmed Friday.

According to an ABS-CBN report, the picture, including other images showing the two sitting together, were taken with Gretchen’s consent. It further said a friend of John, a certain “Jay”, had taken the controversial photo using John’s own camera phone.

On ABS-CBN’s “The Buzz” on Sunday, Gretchen made the confirmation that she indeed kissed John but stressed there was no affair going on between them.

“Hindi po idini-deny, hindi po ikinakatuwa ni Gretchen Barretto ang mga litratong yan. Pero nais ko rin pong i-klaro na there is no affair between Gretchen and John,” Gretchen’s publicist and talent manager Boy Abunda said in “The Buzz.”

The photos spread like wildfire over the weekend, causing a big stir in showbiz circles. It even shocked friends of the two, including the birthday celebrant Rufa Mae who claimed she had no idea about the controversial picture taking that was happening in her house.

“Na overwhelm, na shock din,” Rufa Mae told GMA-7’s “Showbiz Central” also on Sunday. “It was a private party supposedly. Siyempre nakaka-shock dahil may lumabas.”

“Wala tayong alam diyan. Kung meron mang magsasalita about the picture, I think dapat yung mga taong nandyan sa picture,” she added.

Although John remained mum on the photo, he did deny he was having affair with Gretchen in a previous interview with “The Buzz.”

John was once married to actress Janice de Belen, with whom he has four children. He then had a relationship with actress-dancer Vanessa del Bianco. He broke up with Vanessa, his former co-host in the now defunct Magandang Tanghali Bayan noontime show last year.

Gretchen, on the other hand, has a longtime relationship with businessman Tony Boy Cojuangco, with whom she has a daughter, Dominique. They remain unmarried to this day.
