February 20th, 2009 12:12 PM #61I had a lot on my plate lately and it's just now that I found a time to post. Anyway, with regards to that uphill climb, sometimes it's strong but sometimes it is having a hard time. I just see to it that I always pump that fuel filter 3x before moving. Maybe I got used to driving my other truck that has a common rail engine and I associate it with that wherein I could really feel that my b2500 is weak on an uphill due to the very strong common rail engine. But with flat roads, I could say it is mediocre. The acceleration is slow but once it has gained its momentum, it's already fine. I think I should also put into consideration that it is a 10 year old truck so I shouldn't expect it to perform like the new vehicles of today unless I totally replace the engine. About 500 kms to go and it is due to its maintenance and I am gonna have those fluids checked too.

March 5th, 2009 02:15 PM #63That is the problem if you are not doing the check ups or repairs first hand since if that person only cares to drive it and doesn't even give extra effort to care of it, your car will be a total trash. Just like what happened to mine when I left it to my driver when I went to the US. When I came back, I even wanted to drive it onto a ditch. Even the one where you pull to open the cab, the color silver, is broken. I am just wondering what he had been doing during the 1.5 years when I was in the US. And when I arrived, he got fired and all the problems were left to me and as usual, a lot of money was wasted for tons of repairs.
As for your queries, I am unaware if Delta Motors has a branch in Marikina or Antipolo. Delta Motors can be found along Q. Ave just before you see the spur of Q. Ave and West Ave. and it is under the Delta theater.
For the tire brand, I am currently using Goodyear and so far so good. The last time I changed a tire was May last year and based on my record, it cost P3,110.00.
For the engine, why are you considering replacing it with a Ford engine? Its engine is good, though Mazda and Ford have identical engines. Just proper maintenance and for sure it could go a long way. For its lifespan, no one could totally say when it is going to give up. As long as you take care of it properly, for sure it could last long.
I also had my clutch replaced and it cost me more than 10k since clutch disc, pressure plate and release bearing were all replaced at the same time.
The rest of the things that need to be repaired, for sure that is going to cost a lot, I would say set aside around 50k to 60k. It also depends on where you will have it repaired. Just make sure that you bring it to a trusted shop as to prevent problems in the future causing you shelling out more money.
If you're planning to bring it to Abra, double check your brakes, belts, radiator and all the fluids. That is a long way from Manila if you stall in that part of the country.

Dear khelvin:
No I'm afraid walang Delta Motors sa my Antipolo. I also don't know any good repair shops there, kasi di ako pumupunta dyan madalas.
As to the tires, I use a China made brand called Wanli, I use the original size 195 R14-70. I have been using them for several years and have had no problems with them.
The are about Php 2600 to 2700 each if I remember correctly. The tire supplier is in New Manila (I forgot the name) near Kanlaon street. Anyway they are in the Yellow pages.
Well I wouldn't know exactly how long the motor lasts as mine is only at 120,000 km.
As to the Ford Ranger engine, I understand that its a drop-in replacement. If you are getting one, be sure to get the Direct-Injection, Turbocharged model.
Before doing any undechassis work, call Fordland at Banawe st. first so you have an idea of the price, then contact Delta Motors and ask for James, who can give you an estimate for all the work, you can haggle with him (a little).
Good luck and keep us posted.

Dear khelvin:
Fordland sells both original and replacement parts. Meron ata silang surplus but I never inquired. Another place you can get parts is FordMaster along Recto (near Benavidez St.) in Binondo (layo ano!).
As to buying and using surplus parts, I would say that really depends upon the part. If its something like doors, leaf springs, ok siguro, but not for really critical stuff.
The number of Delta Motors in Delta Theater is 373-08-08 or 372-15-32 or 372-15-30.
Oh my god! According to their calling card, they have a branch in Cainta (no address) but here's the telephone number - 682-85-80 or 682-85-36.
Boy am I embarassed! Kala ko pa naman wala silang ibang branch. Sorry for the mix-up.
Anyway hope this helps and good luck.

March 18th, 2009 02:37 AM #68i always learn a lot when i visit this thread (especially from dusky's post)
question ko po
saan yung shop ni ding clemente exactly, and what's the name?
i will have my glow plugs and the relay checked since hard start sha pag malamig. i guess i have to start with that and also start with ding clemente' s shop to do the job.
OT: hyundai porter ang nabili ko instead of a pick-up since i realized na mas malaking loading capacity ang kailangan ko. pero gaya nga ng sinabi ko, visiting this thread teaches me a lot.
salamat po Ü

Dear Ince420:
The shop is along Benitez st., inside West Triangle, but doesn't have a name. BTW they specialize in high performance (racing) and gas engines pero marunong din sa diesel.
Pero kung hard starting ang problema mo better make sure hindi sa injection o fuel system ang problema or you will buying many sets of glow plugs for nothing, sayang naman.
For that puntahan mo si Gener sa Shorthorn.
You can test the glow plugs by yourself, quite easily. Remember the procedure I explained? Carefully take off the glow plugs then use a VOM (volt-ohm) meter to test the resistance of each plug.
It should read pretty low, (tens of ohms), if too high they are open. If zero they are shorted.
If they pass that test, get a battery charger and attach the positive lead to the upper terminal of the glow plug. Clip the negative lead to the plug body, if it heats up then its ok, if not, sira!
Note: If it gets hot unclip the negative lead immediately or you will burn them out!!!
Got that?
Good luck,
Dusky Lim
