8-9 km/L, talk about a 2.5L engine on a big car that consumes gas the same way as some 1.3L sub-compacts!!! I'd take it home and drive it daily! Kudos to Mazda!

Nung last February SkyActiv Exp#2. I had he privelege to participate in that event and did the hiway fuel economy run....distance was abt 150km purely hiway driving fm Clark to SCTEX. Abt 75km each at Cruising speed of 80kph and 100kph. We averaged 16.8km/li on that run. Very good number for big displacement 4Cyl vehicle.

Regarding it fuel consumption, i initially tanked 60L upon release in Mazda Quezon Ave. As of today, the onboard computer reads 17.5-18L/100km (approx 5-6km/L). However, on my second gas refill just minutes ago, it shows that I actually consumed 47-48 liters on my entire 420km trips. So roughly my actual consumption is around 11-12L/100km (8-9km/L). Perhaps the i-stop system did really saved me a few sips of unleaded gas ion those heavy traffic as the onboard computer says that engine has been idled for a total of 1 hr 42 mins. Thats almost 2 hours the engine is supposed to be running and consuming fuel without moving.

I dunno with other cars, but I think you cannot really rely on the onboard computer to check your actually fuel consumption, rather you need to keep tabs of the liters of each gas refill.

That's my initial take on my M6. So far I'm really loving my new "kabet" hehehe good thing my wife is not the jealous type

    Happy new year everyone!
Hi Sir, I'm only getting 6-7.5km/L in heavy edsa traffic. Is this already exemplary or just normal under heavy traffic conditions? I would just like to know if Skyactiv is any better than the competition. Thanks!

    * dezw07 - hello Sir. sorry for the very, very late reply.

How many passengers/stuffs do you usually carry when driving? Fuel economy also vary depending on your car load. But still, I think 6-7km/L in heavy traffic is already great for a mid-size 2.5L sedan. Even subcompacts and 2.0L small suv can easily get those figures in an EDSA/Divisoria traffic.

I cannot say the Skyactiv engine is "better" because it depends on what criteria. If speed and acceleration then a V6 engine will easily beat this hands down. But if fuel economy is on your mind, then yes. With its E-LOOP/I-STOP feature ,I can say this is better than its competition i.e. Camry, Accord, Legacy GT, Optima, Sonata, etc. The only midsize sedan that I can think will beat Mazda6's skyactiv is Peugeot 508 because it also has a start-stop feature and its a diesel engine. (But Php 300-400K more expensive and no free PMS).

I also like the MZ6. Wondering, is this Skyactiv tech with e-loop better than Honda's VCM (cylinder shutdown feature)? thanks

Thanks sir! I am the only one in the car most of the time. My ave FC has gone up a bit to 8 km/l with about 75% heavy traffic and 25% highway. I guess the i-stop really works, i was actually skeptical at first.

By the way sir, what brand of coolant do you use for your car? Thanks.
