Visayas or Mindanao ba byahe mo redhorse? ilayo nun ah, 800 kms?
anyways, going to your routes:
mabilis ang alternate route A kung maaga ka aalis, say 3-4 a.m. wala kang kalaban nyan. during normal travelling hours (6am onwards), kalaban mo mga bus and travellers going south.
Route B: more scenery and lots of zigzags, mas malawak ng konti compared to the road that we went up going to tagatay, meron blind spots pero karamihan may railings naman. kung nalusutan mo yung sa tagaytay, mas madali naman yung mga zigzags sa tanay and pililla at saka mostly asphalt yung zigzags, concrete naman yung patag na roads, most are in good if not excellent condition. kung swerte ka, halos wala ding trapik yan, except during all saints day. madaming sementeryo kang dadaanan sa ruta na yan, at least 4 or 5 yata at dun ka matatatrapik. not to mention the churches along that route, at yung sabungan bago dumating ng pagsanjan. pag natyempo ka sa araw ng tupada (sundays yata yun), matrapik din pero short stretch lang naman.

Update lang po going to Lucena City...
Lucena is 132 kms south of Manila. May take you 3-3.5 hours or more travel time as the whole SLEX is presently undergoing widening & rehabilitation works so expect heavy build-ups. Travel is a breeze when you leave Manila early in the morning or late in the evening. Usual travel time from Alabang to Lucena at these times should be 1.45 - 2 hours only!
