leolop--according to Kia Database, it is confirm that your model is a domestic model and the date of manufacture (release from the factory) was 2001/09/25.

teka.something doesnt completely match up. kung sept25 01 ang mfg date, tapos meron 2001 lto sticker siya dito sa pinas, could it be diretso ito sa pinas? O bagong bago pa, carnap na siya sa korea? Kasi it means it was Phil. registered October to December 2001 lang! Ang pagkaalam ko, it takes 30 days to bring cars into the Philippines from Korea.

kung domestic model (korea) yang nabili mo leolop, in my opinion mas okay yan. Usually kasi pag export model, especially destined for Philippine market, ang dami nang features na inaalis nila. Saka less than 2 weeks lang ang shipping time from Korea to the Philippines.

hi guys. this is my first post so please bear with me. after months of research and updates from this thread, i have finally decided to buy a carnival over a starex or crosswind. nagkataon a friend of mine is selling his kia carnival. it was bought dec 2000 and has ran abt 51T kms. so far, ang napalitan nya is aircon compressor, tires and brake pads daw.

i have some questions sana. i hope u guys can help me:

1) ganyan ba kadali masira ang aircon compressor ng carnival? this is the first time ill be buying a korean car at nagtataka ako coz my japanese cars are at least 10yrs old at ok pa anaman ang aircon compressor.

2) i plan to buy a roof rack because of frequent trips to the province. marami kaming dala so i think kulang ang space sa likod. are the roof rails on top for esthetics only or functional naman talaga sila? upto how much weight can they carry? if i put a roof rack, paano ang access ko doon? i havent seen a carnival with a ladder kasi sa likod.

3) ano ba ang masirain sa carnival para mas tutok ako dyan?

4) i read abt the oil chain problem. i hope hindi ito mangyari sa akin? ano ba preventive maintenance dito? dapat every ilang kms ba ito pinapalitan? ano pwedeng gawin para hindi ito mag deteriorate ng mabilis? frequest oil change lang? would synthetics do a better job?

5) ang nahawakan ko na diesel engines puro isuzu lang. these are chain driver so walang timing belt. paano naman sa kia? may timing belt ba? dapat how many kms ba ito pinapalitan? mga magkano naman kung sa casa ipapagawa?

6) minsan medyo mausok daw. what they do is clean the muffler lang at ok na daw ulit. i read in this thread that cleaning the intake manifold and putting an oil catch can can help. eto na ba ang solution sa problema natin? has anyone actually tried the oil catch can?

7) ano feul consumption nyo? this has an automatic transmission. sabi ng friend ko 8-12kms/l daw.

8) the 2nd row is bench type and the third row is parang crosswind na facing each other. can i put the 2nd row sa likod and buy myself a pair of captain seats? how much would i be spending and where can i buy these?

9) whats a good price of this model (unit bought dec 2000)? ayaw kong baratin friend ko kasi nakakahiya. ayaw ko naman yung talo ako. 51tkms na ang natakbo. stock trim ito. he replaced the aircon compressor, tires and brake pads na. casa maintained rin daw ito. what do u guys think? he mentioned na two-tone na daw ito. meron ba talagang lumabas na 2-tone? i have not seen the actual unit coz unit is in manila and im based in cagayan de oro. pero i trust my friend naman na wala daw kaialngan gawin. never been to an accident except a few bumps sa bumpers.

sir altec,
I hope you find the cause and solution to your injector problem soon.
kung malinis kaya yung injector, di kaya na force out kasi yung dumi causing it to open a bit. so malinis pa din sya kasi lumabas na yung dirt.
kung water po ang cause, lumulusot ito sa fuel filter diba? so kahit frequent change ako ng fuel filter, ganun din? ??

yung sakin naman, i was suspecting the diesel injector cleaner from mitsubushi motors, i used one and the consumption and performance got better. nawala din yung usok. pero might have caused the wear on my injectors. i can never be sure.

so far after the overhaul, I came from tagaytay yesterday, lahat naman ng climbs pati yung steep road sa highlands e wala nang usok, but I will continue to clean the exhaust monthly. meron kasi occasional smoke after starting the engine, there is that distinguished smell of the carnival's smoke, iba yung amoy nito e hehe

leolop, i have the same markings/tailights and color as yours.
i can also fold the mirrors or window down few seconds after switching off.

here are some of my answers, pa verify nalang po sa iba para more accurate info:
consumption, on my first 500kms after the overhaul, so far, 6.52km/liter, 5 persons, city driving and uphill combined. my 500-1000kms, is still to be determined. post ko next time.
on nice smooth highways, before the overhaul, it can go to 11km/liter, or kung sobrang walang stops cguro more than.
mine has an ECAT switch "power mode" and "eco mode", pag power, parang mas malakas yung consumption, I haven't tried using power all the time.

sa oil chain naman, ang sabi sakin is every 80k daw ang palit nito. not sure if that is what is on the manual.

questions:
is there a recommended brand of shocks for the carnival? i plan to replace them, matalbog na kasi. thanks!!

i read something about the tires din, im using dunlop din, yung may nakasulat na "digityre", mga 2,300 isa. mahal cguro yung le mans?

Hindi kasi ako mahilig sa mga body kits, lalo na dito sa probinsya, masikip ang daan kaya parang si leolop, "less is more" for me. Besides, mas gusto ko nang stock yung itsura ng kotse pero magugulat na lang sila sa tulin ng takbo nya, kaysa sa naka-body kit pero wala naman ibubuga pag nagkahatawan na

Anyway, out of curiosity, may nagkakarera ba ng Carnival sa Korea at very sporty ang dating ng mga Carnival dun?

Can't answer all of your questions, since my unit is a local 2002 Sedona RS, but here is my take on the following:

1) ganyan ba kadali masira ang aircon compressor ng carnival?...

My Sedona is only 3 years old but it has already logged over 96,000-km. I haven't had any problems with the aircon compressor during this time. The problem I experienced a few months ago was a leak in the pressure switch, which I had replaced for P680.

2) i plan to buy a roof rack...

I personally don't have or need a roof rack, but I've seen several Carnivals on the road that have roof racks installed. Access would most likely be by stepping on the side of the van after you have opened one of the sliding doors.

When my ride was 2-1/2 years old, the shifter cable broke. You can read about the incident here.

When I had my 80,000-km PMS, the casa replaced a lot of suspension-related parts due to wear and tear. I travel daily along McArthur Highway so I expected as much.

They also replaced the timing belt during this time. The manual I have says the timing belt should be replaced every 100,000 km, but Wheels New Manila recommended I have it done at 70,000 km. Since I couldn't be in Quezon City when my ride hit 70,000 km, I had it done at 80,000 km instead.

It cost me P15,000 when I had it done three years ago at Wheels New Manila, inclusive of parts and labor.

The two-tone models are the higher end LS version. The RS version, like mine, comes in solid colors and lacks several features like the sunroof, airbag, CD player, etc.

mikey, how will i know if gen 1 or 2 sya? diba ang gen 2 sedona na ang name? carnival pa ata to. so i guess gen 1? tama ba?

thanks sa mga inputs mo mike. i wonder how much a roof rack costs. any ideas? or generic ones will do? any idea ano weight capacity kaya ng roof rail natin? i heard yung crosswind pang decoration lang daw.

whats a good price for this ride kaya?
