i have experienced that too and the cause is the fresh air intake opening located at the plastic lip below the windshield.
btw, that temporary fix is still working as of this time. they closed the intake by gluing on illustration board (i think) behind the intake flap. still good after nearly three years.Last edited by diesoline; March 28th, 2008 at 12:00 AM.

March 28th, 2008 10:14 AM #2182i just want to share this info to those who still have problems on smelling smoke coming from the outside even though the outside air intake flap has been disabled... yun sa akin kasi same situation sealed na lahat pero still i'm smelling a little bit of smoke coming from the outside...
here it is.. i found the culprit.... it is on the right side panel of the windshield!! there is a panel cover there that can be easily removed.. when i removed the panel, there is a small hole on the lower portion where the air outside is coming from.. i immediately plugged the hole and there the problem was solved...

March 31st, 2008 05:37 PM #2185It has been more than 7 weeks since I last posted on this particular thread and, unfortunately, my wish of not having any problems with my '01 Carnival after my maintenance run didn't come true. First significant item to go was my battery (understandable since it was quite old). Then the alternator wasn't charging anymore. Had it checked & they found out that an IC (a small electronic thing) was busted . Good thing it didn't cost that much. I'm not sure if I already mentioned that I had the radiator overhauled too. Then the aircon blower made a loud & strange noise (when idle or stationary) after an hour of running. Had the blower oiled but just this week it came back again. I'll have it fixed tomorrow, hopefully. Buti na lang the aircon is ok & still super cold (except during noon). Just this weekend, I noticed that my brakes were quite weak. Had the fluid checked & it was below minimum. I've been topping it up since this morning (may leak kasi). Right now they're replacing the part/assembly where you put the fluid on (brakemaster asssembly? or something). It cost 3000 sa Fronte. Among the numerous second hand cars I've owned (most as old as 10 years when I bought them) it's the first time that I'm replacing that part of the vehicle. I've probably gotten used to having this car repaired all the time that I'm already wondering what the next repair would be. In fact it's scheduled for one tomorrow (aircon blower). In fairness (parang line sa TV), this has taken me to Baguio & Batangas without any problems (except for a flat tire in Baguio w/c could even happen to a new car).

March 31st, 2008 05:46 PM #2186I also had a bad experience with Wheels * E. Rodriguez. Pina check ko kasi yung grinding noise sa steering wheel everytime I make a turn. They said it was quite normal for old carnivals so they corrected it (I think) by shaving off part of the steering wheel. So it worked but (they probably disconnected the battery & the stereo connection) after that the stereo didn't work. I had it brought back the next morning so they could fix it. It turned to be a bad decision since they didn't work on it at all. So I brought it to Banawe to have it fixed. It cost me another 100 (plus gas & waste of time) when it should have been free since there was nothing wrong with it when it was brought to Wheels in the first place. So stay away from the place.

March 31st, 2008 06:09 PM #2187Come to think of it, the previous problem I mentioned is again another 'first'. Now I'm having an issue with the front suspension (or part of it at least). There should be none since the shocks are new & the other 'pang ilalim' are supposedly ok. Problem arises not on big potholes (at least not during slow approaches) but on small ones. Imagine old cemented roads with uneven, grainy surfaces or uncovered small lines carved across subdivision roads that will be probably be laid with a steel hose for whatever purpose or just potholes small enough to be ignored. When the front wheels pass through, it has this uncalled for "thud" or continuous thuds in the case of cemented roads with the gravel visible on top, & the irritating part is that the steering wheel column shudders with it. I just remembered the white hard lines along SLEX/NLEX & other major roads that you pass through before an exit or intersection, at certain speeds, the front including the steering column shudders. The big question is "Is that normal?" I hope somebody could give me an answer. & somebody please convince me not to sell this car at a ridiculously low price in exchange for an older, most likely smaller, hotter (for passengers) but more reliable car (sedan) so that I could have more peace of mind when it comes to repairs & maintenance.

Sir Guwardiya:
A bad stabilizer link, rack end, tie rods or ball joints may cause this thudding sound in your suspension. Have this check again by your mechanic.

March 31st, 2008 08:44 PM #2189sir guwardiya,
suspension mo may problem pag may ingay.. try changing one at a time especially yung stabilizer links and bushings yan ang unang pinagmumulan ng ingay.. sa akin dati maingay din so pinalitan ko yung stabilizer bar bushing 50pesos each at Fronte, ayaw pa nga palitan nung mekaniko kasi buo pa naman daw.. pero nung nilagay yung bago eh tumahimik na
also yung "thud sound" normal yan sa kia carnival especially on the passenger side.. meron ka madidinig the "thud" pag small holes.. pero dapat slight lang hindi naman yung parang kalog na kalog.. i also have that sound but can only be heard when you listen closely..also you may need to change your torsion arm bushing
yung sinsabi mo sa SLEX/NLEX na white strip, aka RUMBLE STRIP may definitely cause severe noise inside the cabin as its purpose is to give WARNING to sleepy drivers that something up ahead is coming..
