Hi to all Carnival/Sedona users,
I'm looking for a family van to replace my existing wagon. The back row gets cramped especially if the car seat is placed. My daughter is less than a year pero masikip na sa wagon namin.
One of my choices is the Kia SEdona/Carnival. Tanong ko lang sa mga owners about the performance of the vehicle (speed, suspension, aircon etc...) ok ba ito kahit Korean car? What about aftersales... madali ba makakuha ng spare parts?
Thanks!

rockinrobin,
The performance of the Sedona is very good as long as you pay attention to the particular needs of its turbodiesel engine.
Speed - ok
Suspension - ok
Aircon - ok
Fuel economy - ok (for a big van)
Spare parts - ok if you're living in Metro Manila. If you're in the province, it depends. You'll generally find the parts you need, but they will generally cost more than the same item bought in Banaue, QC.

Kia Quezon Ave. has good service. Better than Wheels E.Rod as per my experience. Prompt service, nice waiting area.
Less service load, too because the service area of Kia Quezon Ave. is not shared with Hyundai/Ssangyong. And being a former BMW/Land Rover/Mitsu dealer, you share service space with them, too! Multi-brand dealer kasi ang Wheels.

June 13th, 2006 08:28 AM #1125i brought my first gen kia carnival to davao over the weekend. it was a blast to drive. however, i noticed 2 things na medyo natakot ako.....
first, i noticed that when on a downhill at medyo steep ang road and i run 70kph (or faster), the whole van shakes when i hit the brakes. it doesnt matter kung bigla o dahan2 ang pag apak ng brakes basta all the three conditions are there (downhill, steep incline and 70kph and above ang takbo). bakit kaya to? coz when im on a flat surface, kahit 140kph, ok pa rin sya. pls take note na hindi yung steering wheel ang nag vibrate but the van mismo. accelerating wala problema kahit isagad ko. it doesnt vibrate talaga. i wonder if you guys have experienced this....
second is minsan, titigas lang yung brake pedal. dati, when on a crawling traffic at naka D(rive) ang trans ko and i step on the brakes para mag creep forward lang ang van. minsan, bigla nalang titigas ang brakes and the van continuously move forward. the feeling of the pedal is like stepping on the brakes with your engine is off. parang naubusan ng vacuum? vacuum leak kaya? when i brought her to davao last weekend, may isang downhill na curve na medyo matagal ko inapak ang brakes. after a while, tumigas sya bigla. buti nalang may presence of mind ako ang put the gear on its lowest setting L (AT kasi ako) so nag engine brake sya and i lifted my foot and pressed the pedal again. buti kumagat na sya. after this incident, natakot ako bigla. i was with my family the whole time.
sana hindi serious problem ito. anyone experienced this? thanks in advance...

Thanks for the inputs! Follow up question - how will I know if the vehicle is a Kia Park or a locally Sedona/Carnival. If ever I will get one kasi gusto ko yung dinistribute ng Kia and hindi import.
Aside from this thread, meron ba website para sa mga Kia Sedona users? Want to get lots of info kasi before getting one.
Thanks again in advance.

bisoy::: Sorry to hear about your brake system problems. I haven't experienced that problem myself, but you could have a mechanic inspect your front and rear brakes to just to make sure everything is in proper working order.
rockinrobin::: You could check out http://www.kia-forums.com/ It is an international forum, not based in the Philippines, so some features or problems that they discuss might not be applicable to our local Kia vehicles.
The easiest way to find out if the Kia you are getting is a local unit is to ask for the receipt from the local dealer where the unit came from. Iilan lang naman ang mga local Kia dealers kaya madali i-pinpoint kung hindi galing sa kanila ang unit.

to sir bisoy,
hope that you could discover and solve your brake problems asap, moreso that your family is riding in it.
have my 2nd hand carnival for two weeks now, wala namang problems encountered so far. space, power and fuel consumption is very adequate. so does the airconditioning which is very cool compared to our previous ride, the kids really loved the car and have it named already. just waiting to reach 40k for the pms. gud day to you folks!

rhino: good day, doc rhino! i saw a 2004 carnival crdi (just like mine) listed in the buynsell issue two weeks ago. 700k php with 24000 km on the odo. there's a buzz that the crdi sedona will be out in the local market within the year -- i just don't know if whether it will be the all-new grand carnival body or the sedona body.
bisoy: have you had your brakes checked up yet? pa-check mo din ung brake rotor discs. baka uneven na ang wear.

funny ngayon ko lang naisip magpost about our family's carnival park. it's a 2002 model and so far andami nang mga naging problems. first the timing chain broke at 35Tkms (*%*#!) then the aircon louvres gave way plus problems with the injector hoses which all had to be replaced. the guy at wheels says that the kia park is really very problematic which is why they upgraded to the sedona. is there any truth to this? sorry sa dami nang posts ang hirap kasi mag-search ng similar probs. TIA.
One can only hope.
Cheaper brands than Motolite but reliable as well
