April 3rd, 2012 10:02 PM #1473hi guys, may feedback ba kayo sa 2012 1.2 picanto?
plano ko kasi kumuha pero di ko alam kung sulit sa 625K pesos.
i can either get the 1.0 M/T for cheaper.. ang maganda lang sa 1.2 is yung engine size niya and the accessories na kasama.
i'm not sure if it's worth the 80k difference though.
any feedback would be appreciated

April 17th, 2012 03:31 AM #1474AFAIK, the new 1.2 Picanto has the following difference from the the 1.0 MT version:
> Driver's airbag
> ABS
> LED Taillights
> Daylight Running Lights
> 1.2 Kappa Engine (Same as the base Rio)
> Nice looking "15 Alloy Wheels
> Misc accessories.
The question is will this have better fuel consumption? The previous version was plagued with numerous complaints about it's gas sipping habits. (Proof would be the blog with almost 50+ comments from existing owners).
Are there any current owners who would like to share their inputs?

April 17th, 2012 06:36 PM #1476hi all,
i've been able to purchase the 1.2 last Friday the 13th.
the high gas consumption was only reported from the original A/T owners. the 1.2 is a m/t variant. i'm still observing the car's characteristics and everything looks pretty much positive for its first week on the road.
Fuel Consumption:
- not really tested yet as i only had it filled up with a full tank last Sunday. on board computer says the lowest FC i got while driving C5 without traffic is at around 5.9L / 100 KM which roughly translates as 16.9Km/liter. highest FC recorded while in C5 to Libis traffic was around 8L/100KM which is around 12.5KM / L. of course, that's according to the on board computer. i'll be testing the FC via the manual method once i almost empty the tank.
ride comfort and interior
- ride is really good! the seats are very comfortable and firm. it can get really bumpy once you run into small "waves" or inconsistencies on the road though. of course, this is already expected from cars with a short wheelbase. the seats are a mix of synthetic leather (i think) and fabric. patterns are really nice and sporty. the interior is classy and doesn't feel cheap. the design element that really pulled the whole design together was the white dashboard and steering wheel accent (a plastic panel in white) that really brightened up the car. i'm not sure if the panel is color coded to match the body color so i can't confirm if the same is present for the black or red variants. i have the white variant and the dashboard has white panel accents. a number of features have been deleted from the car hence the absence of some buttons compared to its foreign versions. the locations of where the buttons should have been are replaced by flat plastic panels that can be replaced by other accessory switches if the need arises.
stability
- stability needs improvement i think. it's my first time to drive a really small car and it feels a bit "wobbly" in the sense that i'm not so confident in driving the car fast. this can be solved by lowering the car, getting better wheels and a stab bar though. i think i compare it too much with my other car (lowered tiburon) hence the dissatisfaction with its stability. anyway, it's a small problem that can be fixed easily.
acessories included in the 1.2 VS the 1.0
- what malcoxx said was correct. projector and LED head / rear lights, DRL, alloy wheels, airbag are all there. i was able to get the rain visor, matting and tints as freebies. all in all, the 1.2 engine plus the added luxuries, safety (1.0 doesnt have an airbag) and accessories made up for the higher price tag i think. the car is a joy to drive and has impressed my family and friends. my GF needs a bit of convincing though, she hates small cars haha!
acceleration and performance
- it's a 1.2 liter car, what can i expect? lol to be fair, the car is really zippy and responsive when accelerating. i found it quite surprising really. the power to weight ratio seems to be really good. i can honestly say that it accelerates and responds better than my 2.0 tib. the tib is an a/t car so im used to sluggishness. the other cars i drive are diesels (fieldmaster / innova) so the change to a small 1.2 m/t car really surprised me. top speed i've been able to get the picanto at was around 80`kph. i didn't try going above that because i'm trying to maximize my FC. maybe i'll try to hit 100kph someday when the car is beyond its break-in period.
will try to post again later. tinatawag lang ako hehe.

April 17th, 2012 08:59 PM #1477Hivemind - Appreciate it very much for your detailed review of the new 1.2 M/T Picanto. Now we have some user perspective on the car and hope we can get more updates from you as you continue breaking it in, so to speak.
If you didn't buy cash, do you mind sharing your pay plan / financing scheme? Am sure there are lurkers here who are very much interested in finding a reputable dealer.
Also, the head unit for your car is? I so wish it was the built in type. How many speakers? If the HU given was touchscreen, is there GPS?
Last request, pictures sir! :D

April 17th, 2012 09:57 PM #1478i actually took out a loan to pay for the car. provincial rates yung nakuha ko so mas-manageable yung monthly payable for 5 years.. i have quotations from different Sales Agents and they pretty much have the same financing plans. if you guys need the contacts, i can forward them to you. Anyway, if you're planning on getting a unit, please talk to James Nery of Kia Makati (Pasong Tamo). madali siyang kausap and was even generous enough to give me a good discount
as for the headunit, i got the 1-din unit. i was hoping to get the 2-din unit with DVD/GPS capabilities but it's only available for their low-down DP promo. di siya pwede kunin sa SRP unit so i was stuck with the 1-din HU. i might as well create a small review of the HU hehe.
the stock HU is a JVC 1-din model that has bluetooth, CD, MP3 and USB capabilities. the HU i guess is ok for everyday use but it'll be unsatisfactory for those who'd want a little more SQ in their system. the features are ok pero bitin talaga ang sound quality. as for the speakers, i think we'll also have to swap out the speakers for something better. i'm sorry pero panget talaga ang sound quality ng kotse.. it gets the job done but it honestly left me wanting more. the speakers are located on the dashboard itself so i'm not really sure how difficult or easy it is to replace. as for the rear speakers, i haven't really noticed them, i'll probably take a look later on to see if there are even rear speakers lol
one more small review.. the stock horn is incredibly weak. this is the first think i'll be changing. you just can't command respect with it's stock horn. ultimo tricycle and pedestrian eh kinu-cut ako sa daan. nampots. pwedeng torotot tong busina niya eh. i'll probably have it replaced by next week.
warranty notes: pwede daw palitan ang wheels and mags without voiding the warrantystickers and decals are A-OK too, warranty won't be voided if you stick any kind of decal (large or small) onto the car.. they will void your warranty if you do any body modifications or electrical / accessory installations though. the only way to install additional accessories or body modifications is if you have the casa do it for you. for example, buy a better horn / busina from banawe, have it installed in the casa, warranty will not be voided. buy headunit from banawe, install in casa, warranty not voided. buy bodykit from wherever, have the kit painted in the a shop, have it installed in the casa, warranty not voided.
pix to come once i get themsana dumami pa 2012 picanto owners dito

April 18th, 2012 03:44 PM #1480i was doing research prior to purchasing the picanto and the FC issue was observed for the A/T variants. the A/T variants were doing really poor with their FC. m/t variants were doing very well in terms of FC as far as i know. i suggest you do your own research so that you're better convinced or informed before buying the car. i think i also read that FC improved after turning off ECO mode? i can't seem to remember where i got this piece of info. i'll be testing ECO on and ECO off maybe after a few months.
do note that this is for the latest model picanto.
