I think the pickup's differential (pumpkin) on the rear axle makes the ground clearance "low" but they actually sit higher than CUVs. Better water wading depth.
By the way, the Hilux with a ground clearance of less than 200mm is probably the fleet/base model with small diameter tires.Last edited by AG4; June 22nd, 2024 at 07:41 AM.

June 22nd, 2024 08:41 AM #22in my opinion only,
i think ground clearance is for rocks and stuff, where half an inch (13 mm) can mean the difference between scrape and trapped.
fording-the-flood-wise,
i'd probably be more interested in how significantly higher the engine sits, than how low the banjo (rear differential) is.
between 200 mm and 180 mm ground clearance, that's only about 3/4 inch difference or a thumb's width; hardly something to crow about in real-life flood-fording.
i wonder,
why don't manufacturers advertise their engine oil sump ground clearance more?

First, the Hilux with around 180mm or 174mm ground clearance appears to be the base 4x2 fleet/work version. The differential is about as low as the Innova's.
The Hi-rider or 4x4 models have a 216mm ground clearance, another number (279mm is floating around the internet, this measurement seems to disregard the rear differential).
The floor and engine of even the base (non-Hi Rider) 4x2 Hilux pickup is probably still a bit higher than that of the Sonet.
The front-wheel drive Sonet doesn't sit that high up but it doesn't have big protruding things underneath. Think of it as a modern front-drive car lifted with an extra 50-60mm of ground clearance. It's not really meant for wading through floods or streams, on the bright side, CUVs like this are good for clearing tall humps, steep driveways etc where modern cars would scrape their under or front bumpers.
Probably because it's not the lowest part of a vehicle. Chances are the under-engine cover, subframe, exhaust system or differential (on pickups/SUVs) are lower.Last edited by AG4; June 22nd, 2024 at 03:13 PM.

June 22nd, 2024 11:34 PM #24got to check one out at sm san fernando today. rear visibility is very poor
and as typical w/ short(er) wheel base cars such as this one (and other short cars like Jazz etc) the 2nd row door opening is smaller, so foot may snag while getting in/out
as for water wading rating it really comes down to air intake and breathers. despite all its faults (and ford's bean-counting) the ecosport surprisingly has a factory installed transmission breather for the m/t at least, thus is rated 550mm water wading. this is higher than the water wading on a stock jimny jb74. the jimny's engine and intake are much higher than on the ecosport but doesn't have breathers pre-installed
but at the end of the day those water wading numbers are just numbers. the important thing is you don't dunk the a/c compressor and alternator in water, so ultimately the car w/ the higher mounted engine/compressor/alternater wins (you just have to install breathers)

[On the bright side, you know the back window is the rear end of the car. Lol
By the way, i think all variants have a rear camera.
About the rear door opening size, i'm assuming its similar to the Raize or maybe an EcoSport?
Its interesting that the wheelbase of these entry-level subcompacts are longer than the first 2 generations of the 5-door Rav4.Last edited by AG4; June 23rd, 2024 at 06:36 AM.

Planning to buy po kasi nung ex variant.. thank you po!
I am currently observing the 2SM battery installed on my MU-X, Yuasa brand. Kaka 1 yr lang nito...
Cheaper brands than Motolite but reliable as well
