And again... the government classifies my Lynx as a "luxury car" when it obviously isn't. The government classifications of vehicles here are ancient and arbitrary and don't really match the modern market.

They even classified the CR-V as an "AUV" back during the AUV craze when it was obvious to all and sundry that it wasn't.

They classify the Soul as an SUV because our government doesn't recognize the "Crossover" class and they haven't invented one to cover "Crossovers" at all. The CR-V, Tucson, X-Trail, et al are not SUVs, either... but car-based crossovers. But since there is no "crossover" in the government's eyes, they're all listed as SUVs.
