November 9th, 2012 11:39 AM #82DAMN!!!! Sir d-mac the reason why the brakes were modified is probably because the engine is pushing figures north of 400 hp and crazy torque values at di na kinaya ng stock! I would mod my brakes too if I had that much powed on tap. The engine bay looked like it took some serious colorful steroids! :D I want! I want!
I wonder how much that build costed. All arms and legs?

Yup sir, aside from the outstanding fuel efficiency that none of its competitors could match, the 4JJ1-TCX (3.0 iTEQ VGS Turbo) engine to start with is already a perfect platform for modification, the reason why this mo-betta D-max has been the popular choice of pickup for drag-racing in Thailand and in the Asian Rally.
The reputed Asian Rally driver William Mei of Malaysia could not believed how durable the D-max is against abuse the first time he drove it for such demanding and grueling event. At the age of i think 57 years old William Mei won the AAM Malaysian 4x4 Rally aboard the D-max 3.0 iTEQ VGS Turbo in 2008. In 2009, the podium finishes are dominated and teeming with Isuzu D-max's with some competitors aboard other pickup brands switching to the D-max, a testament of its durability and reliability in extreme conditions. A Thai national, on the other hand, won the Asian Cross-Country Rally in 2008 also aboard the D-max. Funny enough, in the official website of the Asian Cross-Country Rally, the D-max is even in the front-page: http://www.r1japan.net/axcr/
Bruce Garland and Harry Suzuki of Australia, the 2009 Paris-Dakar Rally tandem on the D-max that won 1st-place amongst all diesel UTE under the highly-competitive T1/T2 category where the heavily-modified VW Touaregs are the king, some of the parts that they were using are OEM or standard D-max equipment that they believed are durable enough for such punishments, which proved they are haha!
Adding further, Bruce Garland described the engine as under-stressed and with a stainless-steel timing chain, is “bloody unbreakable”. They raced the D-max with just a reprogram upgrade, and that there is around 100 extra Nm of torque waiting to be released from the standard engine.
HAY ISUZU PHILIPPINES, if you're listening! Hindi man lang ninyo pinarating sa Pinas ito when in fact since 2006 it's already available globally!

Chief, timing gear-and-chain.
This picture about the D-max has been posted here at Tsikot and at TopGear Phils. many times over na chief - you just have to look for it ;)
In comparison, the truly indestructible Toyota 4.2-litre 6-straight 1HZ and 1HT-FT and 1HZ-FTE diesels used in the Landcruiser 70 series is full timing gears, though.
This is the Aussie-only version LC 70 (a hood-scoop distinguishes it from the other LC 70's) with the more powerful (but detuned) 4.5-litre 1VD-FTV V8 engine with single-VGT that comes either with a timing gear-and-chain or timing belt - i don't know why there are 2 options though hehe
Cheers!

At least, you are buying a 2004 model CRDi engine out from a D-max. The only mod that we Isuzu patrons only wants that to have is to change the fixed geometry turbo into a variable geometry turbocharger then good na good na kami hehe ;), just like what it received in 2006 when the 4JJ1-TC became 4JJ1-TCX - same basic powerplant but the latter only comes with a VGT....
Sabagay anong aayawan pa ng ordinaryong-tao tulad namin sa mga D-max namin kung pupunta kami ng Naga City, Bicol from Metro Manila o Nasugbo, Batangas from Metro Manila at nakukuha namin ang 17.0 km per litre, o di kaya 13.4 km per litre kahit upak ka pa papunta ng Baguio City via Marcos Highway from Metro Manila hehe ;)
Cheers!

Gents, might as well also post this here - though irrelevant as to the 2013 D-max, yet it's still the same basic platform 4JJ1-TC engine that they both share, only that the 2013 is an improved and tweaked-out 2006 model 4JJ1-TCX with VGT
Now that i'm overseas again, i miss driving by the right side of the road (left-hand steering), and most of all, my D-max's!
Cheers!

Only a powerful pick-up like the Isuzu D-max can give you the double advantage of being the ideal vehicle for work and play. It combines form and function beautifully, letting you drive on and off-road in total comfort.
