December 9th, 2013 05:57 AM #5053Hi, pls note that the design of the EGR valve of Euro V is so much better than Euro IV. We saw the inside of the Euro V EGR valve, and it is our opinion that these won't cause headache as much as the Euro IV EGR.
And I don't think this is the cause of your low power. I suggest you bring your vehicle in for proper maintenance check by well-trained mechanic, not street-trained mechanics. They might not know the fundamentals of these modern engines

December 9th, 2013 06:18 AM #5054Hi Oliver, the EGR is Exhaust Gas Recirculation, is a system in which the exhaust gas is forced back into the combustion chamber, for the purpose of lowering the harmful exhaust gas NOx. The downside of this system is: the soot-laden exhaust gas clogging the EGR valve and the intake manifold, thereby a possibility of eventual rough, low power, or worse: stalled engine.
The Euro 5 engine is a big improvement over the Euro 4 engine at hindi ito maselan. The Euro 5 engine's fuel, ignition, engine management was designed by Delphi instead of Bosch. The belt-driven fan is replaced with electric fan for a quieter engine, and the new Delphi system increased the torque by 12%. Also the EGR valve design is so much better and may be trouble free. It has a better MPG too.

December 9th, 2013 07:26 AM #5055guys.. just want to comment about my case with my previous TCI 01 model starex.. i dont remember ever cleaning the EGR in the 10 years that i owned it.. i know its a totally old school diesel, but the work of the EGR is the same. im wondering then as to why my EGR never got clogged. i read so much about blanking EGR, because it is said to reduce smoke and give more power to the engine.. but i hardly had no smoke on my starex then.. and it passed emissions testing every year until i sold it. i am not arguing that EGR blanking is useless.. im just wondering why my case was like that..
now i own a GRX CRDI. was thinking about blanking it too.. but im satisfied with how the engine is running.. and there is no hint of smoke.. even in sudden hard acceleration..

December 9th, 2013 10:08 PM #5058No. In one of our jobs we had to open the intake manifold, and my techs had to remove the EGR also to do the job. So We had a chance to look at the EGR. There may never be any problem with the Euro V EGR because of its design. We never took picture as it was not an EGR problem that we were working on.
Sir Zic, on blanking the EGR issue, it may be important for you to know that Hyundai Philippines had experimented on this in the past already. We also did some experiments on this. If you want to know the result of these tests, my email is hancars*hotmail.com
Thanks.
