The civic itself has a very good crash cell structure that obviates the need for front airbags IF the people are wearing seatbelts.
curtain and side airbags are more vital in this regard.
can't go wrong with either, but the speed sensing door locks and the paddle shifters are sweet

To be honest, the wheel sizes between the 1.8V and -S aren't really a big factor. I'd go ahead and say even 16s are still too small for an FD - and the stock 16s are too plain-looking to boot. The Civic needs 17s to really look good.
Depends what you plan for the car. If you want to keep it relatively stock, the S is a better buy. If you're planning to swap out stuff anyway (e.g. change the steering wheel, the wheels, etc), the V is a better starting point.

March 15th, 2010 11:05 AM #17I suggest you go for the V variant already. the amount of additional features vs. the additional price is very much reasonable. believe me you'll appreciate the extras in the long run

Start right. Get the S variant. SRS/Airbags are integral parts of the safety reputation this car is known for. The car got high marks for safety _with_ the SRS as standard. Don't for one moment think that the SRS is a waste. It's one of those things you wish you won't have to use, but there if you need it. And as mentioned, you'll likely spend more than 60k to fit SRS to a V variant. Even prrobably spend twice that amount; Change steering wheel, change ECM/PCM and/or MICU, new SRS module, sensors, airbags, wiring/harness, etc.
If you put things into perspective, P60k is about the amount you spend per day in ICU. ;)
Paddle shifts, better tires, optitron gauges, better interior trims, and of course the SRS, etc., are a bargain for an additional 60k.
