CRV Fuel Nightmare

I've been thinking. If I get the CRV LPGed, I can save on fuel at 27 pesos a liter compared to 49 pesos unleaded. But the CRV only has 5km/liter efficiency 2004 A/T. If I get an Altis 2008 1.6V or G A/T. It can give me 10km/liter so even if gas is 49 pesos a liter. Sedan still gives more saving than the Lpg powered CRV. What do you think?

It seems the Altis 2008 1.6G/V A/T is the most fuel efficient car in the mid-sedan range, right? It can run at supposedly 10-11km/liter. Altis 2008 is a business car so it would look ok in business trip rather using say a Yaris or Vios which can get transactions cancelled when meeting with other companies executive.

Nah I still say among them (compact sedans) the Ford Focus TDCI is the most fuel efficient of all... But among gas powered engines, I believe its the 1.8 Civic which is the most fuel efficient...

^^ agree... the ford focus tdci is the most fuel efficient car today and also has the power!

the altis is heavier than its predecessor but still has the same engine so FC might be compromised here.

The 1.8 Civic has 1.8L engine, how can it be more fuel efficient than say the 1.6 Altis?

Honda's engine are more efficient. The 1.8 li promises power from a higher displacement engine with a supposed fuel consumption rate comparable to that of a 1.5 li engine.

There are other factors to consider when looking at fuel consumption. Aside from engine displacement there is also weight. I was always under the impression that the Corolla was heavier of the two.

Civic 1.8 V MT 1,205 kg
Corolla 1.6 E MT 1,170 kg

I guess, I'm wrong.

Anyways, the motioncars did a city fuel consumption test with the Civic and they got 7.XX km/li. This is purely city driving with crawling traffic. Motioncars also did another more in-depth review (using a 1.8S A/T) and the got around 12.xx km/li for a mixed highway and city driving.

The Php 229,000 price difference bet. the two is quite significant. If you rack up tons of mileage per year (< 50,000 kms / year ), then the Ford TDCi is definitely a worthy purchase given its renowned fuel sipper characteristics. However, if the Ford will be used sparingly or as a weekend vehicle, then I think it would be an utter waste, as any significant savings from a diesel would be completely negated by a low mileage usage.

its about the power to weight ratio... not necessarily the displacement. the new altis has a smaller engine and heavier body so it needs to push more, hence the higher fuel consumption.

with honda... well im really impressed with the engine technology of honda, thus being a fanboi!

they make engines at high displacement but have lower consumption than the conventional 1.8.

Expecting the Corolla 1.6L to do 10km/L might be a bit too optimistic when your CRV only does 5km/L. A more realistic FC would be 7-8km/L.
