If your budget is limited, you shouldn't be looking at a Honda Accord or midsize sedan ... used ones may be cheap to acquire but they will still cost more to maintain ...

Accord platforms are quite robust and reliable. Unless you have a broken engine or sliding tranny, they are relatively easy to maintain. Just the usual change oil and fluid replacements will go a long way for any platform. Another concern is the power steering system if the previous owner used non-Honda PSF but changing the seals and reusing Honda PSF will do the trick.
Most immediate concern is if you can deal with the daily fuel expense. Be happy to average 6-7 km/L when driving an Accord. However, in exchange for fuel expense, you get a much better ride compared to a City or Civic.
*miguel20 - another consideration is the Mazda6 2.3L (2006-2008). That platform is lighter than an Accord 7th gen. Even in stock setup, it looks much better. With an Accord 7th gen, you have to change the stock rims to 17 or 18 to give it some bling.

July 21st, 2019 03:26 AM #635Hi guys, just looking for someone to talk me into/out of getting a 7th gen accord with the 2.4 engine or maybe the 3.0 v6 (ok this might be a long shot but damn v6 hehehe)
I am currently driving an automatic 6th gen civic vti.
It does its job well and I am quite happy with it but I can't deny this feeling of wanting a bit more power haha.
My concerns with the accord are cost of maintenance and availability of parts.
I know it is a more expensive car so it is expected that maintenance would cost more but I want to know how much more compared to my civic?
Would it be reasonable of me to expect it to cost around 30% more to maintain than my civic? Or would it cost more than that?
What about parts? Hindi naman siguro ito yung tipong dadayo ako kung san san para lang makuha yung part na kailangan ko no?
Thanks guys!

Get the 2.4L model of the 7th gen. It is more fuel efficient compared to the 2.0L and 3.0L models. That same engine (K24) is still being used up to the 9th gen so parts supply and support is still available.
The platform will be heavier than a Civic EK but it will be quicker and faster. Handling and response will be as good or better as Accords are among the best-handling FWD cars. Interior space will be a lot better than the Civic thus giving a more comfortable ride.
Fuel expense will surely increase, maybe around 20%. You are looking at around 6-7 km/L on average on city routes and 10-12 km/L on the highway. In terms of maintenance, just follow the 10k km change oil cycle when using FS oil (5w30 or 5w40), change air filter regularly, plugs (every 20k if platinum, 60k if iridium), and ATF every 40k km.
Accords are quite robust platforms. The suspension is on the firm side but they are durable unless the previous owner trashed the car. Key things to check are its power steering system, transmission, cooling, and aircon systems. These are the ones expensive to fix if it is broken.

I feel the same way. Not a fan.
