Note that's mostly highway driving (to Baguio).

Well, the 16 km/li on pure highway is already on subcompact to mini-car territory already.

I dont know....whenever these motioncars guys test drive vehicles, they seem to post (IMO) overly optimistic fuel consumptions results. They must have feather weight right feet :D

    ************

Also from the motioncars review, it is clear that 2.4 li might be a bit underpowered for this heavier and larger Accord body.

    ********

The US gov't EPA site lists the fuel economy of the Accords they tested:

    3.5 li VCM
    City : 19 MPG
    Highway: 29 MPG
    Combined: 22 MPG

2.4 li (177 HP) - note: Accord 2.4 S PHDM is rated at 180 HP
    City : 21 MPG
    Highway: 31 MPG
    Combined: 24 MPG

Motioncars' results is quite contrary to the abovementioned results.

Its actually 180 PS which is equal to 177.5 HP.

People tend to mix up "HP" and "PS", they're close but not the same.
    1 PS = 0.98632 HP

My diesel does better than that. It doesn't have as much power, but who needs power nowadays? I'm currently averaging 25MPG.

That highway fuel economy is also done at 55-60MPH I believe, and most owners will never drive at that speed - they'll take it to 70-80MPH, which will drop that number to around 25, roughly the same as mine also, if I drive around that speed (75MPH). When I once drove an average of 60MPH, my fuel economy was 29MPG.

    City driving? 22MPG, at worst

Sorry, after seeing those figures I just felt good about my car....

The 2.4 engine already got a 14 horsepower hike to compensate for the heavier body weight. So it should have at least have the same performance as the old model. motioncars also claimed that the 2.4 does roughly 10km/l on the Baguio trip. I'm not sure how the motioncars people calculate their fuel mileages. They claimed that the old 3.0V6 Accord does 7.06km/l, I think its rather exaggerated. Does anyone here have a first-hand experience with these Accord models in our Philippine mixed highway/city situations?

I think the fuel mileage published by the US gov't (through its EPA site) is a fairly accurate way to gauge a vehicle's consumption rates. Pls. take note bec. they have better roads and less (Divisoria-like) bumper to bumper traffic, the results they get are probably on the very optimistic end of the actual results that we get here in the Phils.

At least now we know, based on the US surveys, that the fuel mileage they claimed on the 2.4 Accord is fairly accurate. Since the roads there are much like the ones leading to Baguio: world class highways, twisty mountain roads, streets without much traffic like those in the provinces. But I'm still rather surprised that a 2.4 engine can do that good, considering that my grandpa's 2005 Accord 2.4 does only around 5.5 to 6km/l on daily drives to and from work from QC to Valenzuela.

i hope that when honda gets around to face lifting this current model around 2010, they will scrap the ugly, angular, chrome bordered front grille and get rid of the ice tray air slats in the lower air intake. 'til then, i'll soldier on with my less visually exciting but elegant '07 camry.

no offense to accord owners, i used to drive an '02 accord and loved that car. if honda cleans up the front styling, i'd trade-in my camry without hesitation.
