April 16th, 2010 03:22 PM #1Inquiry: I have a 2007 ACURA MDX with entertainment tech and navigation (surely will not work in PI). Has anyone shipped this type of SUV form the States to the Philippines? I am planning to bring this SUV to the Philippines when I retire. Wonder if HONDA dealership will be able to provide quality maintenance for the vehicle. Also, has anyone know how much tax and registration I would be paying for this SUV if I ship it in 2012?

The last I checked tax on the vehicle will be based on the value when you bought it and not current blue book value. If you ship it in 2012 the vehicle will be 5 years old and you would be taxed on the value when you bought it in 2007. Tax may be x2 of the purchase price IIRC. Where are you located? You can call any of the freight forwarding companies in the US and they will tell you what you need to know. I considered shipping one of my vehicles when I was in California and the shipping company said it would be cheaper to just buy a car in the Philippines because of the cost of shipping and taxes once it gets in the Philippines. Also check with the local Philippine consulate about it as there was at some point no taxes levied on personal effects of balikbayans retiring in the Philippines, just not sure if that is still in effect.
Edit:
Found this online but not sure how accurate it still is with the law changes.
