^^ that is why there is something called "situational awareness". this is about knowing your environment at ALL times. it is a constant, deliberate effort to observe and determine all possible threats.
when you are driving you are suppose to check your side mirrors and rear view mirror every few seconds, di lang sa harap nakatingin. you are also suppose to look far and near. that is just defensive driving di ba. situational awareness is taking that defensive driving practice to a higher level, this time not just assessing what other drivers are doing and possibly do, but assessing if they are a threat. you then try to predict what this possible threat will do, even doing tests of your suspicions (like speeding up, changing lanes or making turns). it also requires to be aware of possible ambush points, like in this particular case while crossing a hump on the road. you also make plans and prepare - pag hinarang ako i floor the gas and aim for the bastard, get your gun from its hiding place, lock and load.
kung mahilig ka sa guns, or even simple personal security, meron available info about this topic sa internet and gun magazines/publications.

kaya lahat tayo pag may nakita tayo na riding in tandem sa likod natin super allert na dapat tayo. make that defense plan - tatakbo ka ba, o lalaban. alam naman na natin na most crimes againts drivers nowadays are committed by RIT gangs e may nakita ka na RIT tapos bale wala pa din, isip victim pa din. dapat winner instinct (or killer instinct!) lagi.

December 6th, 2013 12:33 PM #33^madaling sabihin yan in theory. pero the reality is, madami masyado factors sa lahat ng incident. it is really important to be situationally aware, pero mamaya sa sobrang "aware", lahat nalang ng RIT na titigil, sasagasaan mo.

Kahapon lang, was heading to a patient. Did the usual checks like kunwari aakyat sa flyover then last minute biglang hindi sumampa ng flyover to see if susunod pa din. Ayaw bumitaw. Ginawa ko pinasok ko sa e.r ng isang hospital na malapit. Ayun, di na nakasunod. Pero nag ready na ko ng defensive equipment and nag inform na ko sa mga tropa na may nakasunod and kung ano balak ko.
Tama sila, always check your surroundings.

That's one thing a lot of us have learned by driving defensively on these streets, being able to predict the movements of a-holes on the road. It helps you avoid their intentions or in some occasions, allows you to do a "close call" with them without initiating an accident (para matuto).
