October 15th, 2003 03:50 PM #32Ford ignores Francisco Motor's damage claim

FORD Motor Co. Philippines has shrugged off an allegation of Francisco Motor Corp. (FMC), a former assembler of Mazda pickup trucks, that Ford and its 30-percent-owned Mazda Corp. breached an agreement that eventually led to FMC's financial woes.
Ford likewise downplayed FMC's damage claim for 85 million dollars.
FMC has accused Ford and Mazda at a rehabilitation court of preventing it from continuing its assembly of Mazda pick-up trucks and thus caused its financial losses.
FMC said the 85 million dollars in damages it sought from Ford and Mazda was equivalent to FMC's investment in the upgrading of its assembly plant to comply with global standards and accommodate increased production of Mazda pickup trucks.
When Ford set up office in the Philippines in the late 1990s, it manufactured Ford Ranger pickup trucks, which were said to be exact copies of the Mazda pickup trucks.
The similarity between the Mazda pickup truck and Ford Ranger resulted in a conflict in Ford Ranger's registration with the Board of Investments.
FMC issued a "letter of no objection" to Ford's assembly of the Ranger on condition that FMC would be allowed to assemble Mazda pickup trucks and be given exclusive importation and marketing rights for Mazda until October 2002.
FMC asked for the right to import and sell Mazda even after Ford's entry to the Philippines.
FMC said that Ford breached the agreement and that Mazda conspired with Ford by cutting ties with FMC.
FMC said its newly assembled plant became idle, its costs escalated and it eventually incurred losses.
Ford vice president David Macasadia said Ford would not pay much attention to FMC's claims, saying that the case had been resolved.
"As far as we are concerned, it is already settled," said Macasadia told reporters at the launch of Ford's three new car models Tuesday.
Ford said the company had the go-ahead from the courts to take over the assembly and sale of Mazda vehicles.

easy lang pre... hindi naman ford or any manufacturer ang may kasalanan... mahirap lang nga talaga i accept na medyo mahal ang pagkabili natin ng mga 4x4 SUVs natin... at least maka benefit naman yung iba... pero sayang sobra! at least almost one year ko nang nagagamit yung rav4...
pero 200hp! ohmigosh! sarap nun! nanliit tuloy yung 180hp ng x-trail 250! hehehe...

October 16th, 2003 03:10 PM #40mbt,
tanong kita sa mga 2.5M range which would you choose, Suburban 4x2, expedition 4x2, prado 4x4 or pajero 4x4
I am currently observing the 2SM battery installed on my MU-X, Yuasa brand. Kaka 1 yr lang nito...
Cheaper brands than Motolite but reliable as well
