is a brand new escape 2008 xls 4x2 for 1M a good deal? its a fit package without insurance and LTO yet since the company shoulders them.

but we were strongly considering something else like the civic or crv because we know, two people who have escapes (2004 model), both of them, after a year daw, their gauges, lights and everything suddenly stopped working and it cost them more than 50,000 to fix it. one of them is from manila and the other is here from cebu. they had exactly the same problem. and they also said since the engine is 2.0L, medyo underpowered the body is too heavy for the engine so they end up with a low FC. The new escape offers a 2.3 and they removed the 2.0 and the 3.0V6.

Thanks a lot niky for your replies. Your very knowledgeable in motor cars.
You're one of those in the forum whose opinions I find interesting, informative and valuable. Keep it up!

Back to the board......so its still wishful thinking then...hope Ford Philippines can address this problem in the future and consider such options.

Well... it happens. But if it happened within a year, that should be covered by warranty. Did they tell you what the problem was, exactly? If it's 50,000 pesos... that's an ECU replacement, and they got burned by their service advisor for denial of warranty (know a guy it happened to... didn't cost him a cent).

Not a jibe against Escape owners (I have lots of Escape buddies in the Ford club), but I've seen the most ridiculous claims for damage or warranty out of Escape owners...

"Bakit butas yung block? Dumaan lang ako sa baha at namatay ang makina!"

    :hysterical:

Actually, two or three of those claims, already... weird. Some people just don't understand the term "maximum fording height".

Slightly different engine management system, electronic throttle (which, combined, should save gas), bigger engine, suspension revisions, interior and exterior facelift.

I would still like to know the details of those two cases. I have some clubmates who still have the old Escape, and it would be interesting to know what happened.

Such failures are extremely rare, but not unknown. Sometimes a short in the wiring harness can kill the ECU (doesn't only happen in Fords), but in all such cases, no matter what, the dealership usually fixes it for free. It happened to one RS owner. Fixed under warranty. Sold it to another guy... four years later, the car is still okay.

Well, one is in manila. Its a 2.0L Escape XLS. It just suddenly that all the gauges and indicators stopped working. It cost 40,000+ almost P50,000 to have it repaired. It was out of warranty already and the owner immediately sold it right after having it fixed to avoid future problems.

Another is here in cebu. About the same aged 2.0L Escape XLS also. Exactly the same thing, except that he still has the car until now but he doesnt use it much because of high fuel prices. The mileages of the cars in cebu are a lot lower than those in manila by the way.

Anyway if noone else seems to have this problem, maybe they're just very unlucky and if we get an escape, we will most likely not have that problem.

Well... the Escape is pretty nice for the price (since it's currently down-priced to just about 1m), but it's nowhere near as economical as a Tucson/Sportage CRDi or a CR-V 2.0. Still, it does have its merits. Comfortable ride, good space, good handling... but it's getting pretty old, and should be up for replacement soon. (Hopefully.)

Good luck on your car buying decision!

    i have a 2004 XLS 2.0 Escape. 46,000K mileage

Well satisfied with this one. The ride, handling, interior, cargo bay, overall appeal of its "look". Its been 4 years now, i havent had any experience of defects at all. Never brought it to casa for repairs only for tuneups.

The ONLY downsides in my 4 years is fuel economy 6-7km/l lang. You'll feel the underpower in start-stops, but in NLEX you'll easily hit 130kp/h or so.

BUT, to me its such a nice experience to drive one that im seriously planning to get a backup subcompact car to save gas money rather than sell it.

Two words describe my Escape ('04) experience: FEEL GOOD...
