November 15th, 2008 02:14 PM #1Bad news for me. My 94 Corolla GLi needs an overhaul. Read the previous threads. The tell tale signs are there. Some smoke when I remove the valve cover cap and the oil dip stick. Some wet oil deposit on the tailpipe. A little bit more noisier than usual.
So I got an estimate from a shop the sells the parts and has a machine shop and inhouse mechanic along Proj 6 QC. I asked for their best price for parts and machine shop services, for the benefit of fellow tsikoteers na din.
PARTS
Overhaul Kit - 1650 Federal
Master Bearing -750 Taiho brand
C Rod Bearing - 450 Taiho
Valves - 1900 Fuji
Piston Ring - 950 NPR
Thrust washer - 280
Motor Oil - 480
Oil filter - 190
Spark Plugs - 600
Timing belt - 1680 toyota
Paint thinner - 200
Rags - 60
Silicon x 2 - 190
If engine is really bad:
Liner - 1700
Piston - 1800
TOTAL: 12610
MACHINING 16 Valve 4aFE
Resleeve - 1800
Rebore - 2800
Polish - 800
Fitting - 900
Regrind - 1800
Oil Seal Build up x 2 - 1200
Valve Seat and retappet - 4500
Washing - 400
TOTAL: 14200
Whew! Magastos pala. Di ko pa pinapagawa.
Do you think the quote is fair enough? Which of the Machining services are essential and which are optional? How do I know if I need to have them done on the engine?
Gurus, pa-advise at paexplain naman! HELP!

What are the causes ba para ma overhaul ang auto? Age lang? Yung 96 GLi ko almost 50k ang quote for full overhaul pero sa top of the line na pagawaan yun (specializing in Toyota). Mahusay kausap yung may ari. Buti na lang false alarm at hindi pa kailangan ng overhaul. wheeeew.

OT but what would cause that? Normal wear and tear? Basta ba change oil religiously hindi yan mangyayari o hindi maiiwasan basta luma na car?
Parang ang hassle mag overhaul, option ba magpalit na lang ng engine?Last edited by _Cathy_; November 15th, 2008 at 07:07 PM.

November 17th, 2008 08:12 PM #10Thanks for all your inputs! I think the shop owner is trustworthy. He guarantees the work for 6 months, and labor is 4K.
For the machining, how do I know if my engine needs them? Para saan ba to?
