Keep the engine in tip-top shape. Change oil (in the proper viscosity) and perform all required PMS as prescribed by your car manufacturer. Engines will eventually lose efficiency as they age. However, keeping it healthy will prolong its life and keep it within its optimal operational efficiency longer.
Equally important is your driving style. Hard accelerations and decelerations will not only use up more fuel, it will also promote additional mechanical wear on the engine and powertrain, losing its efficiency somewhat. Even a hybrid that's driven hard will consume a lot of fuel.

September 12th, 2016 07:44 PM #6I keep my revs low (usually at around 1750-2000rpm, not exceeding 2500rpm), avoid abrupt throttle input, avoid excessive idling, change fluids and filters on time, keep the radiator clean, inflate tires to proper tire pressure... Did i miss anything? 😁

Remove all unnecessary loads and change to low rolling resistance tires

Monograde is a no-no from a fuel economy standpoint.
Here's a tip: Buy any recent issue of Top Gear Philippines... or the current one, preferably, and get a discount voucher for Shell Helix Ultra 0-40w.
Saves you about 250 pesos on the price of the oil. In other words, libreng magazine plus 75 peso discount.

But more seriously, you want a multi-grade with the lowest cold number possible for economy reasons... then stick with 30-40 for the second number in deference to our weather.

Also, buy a good spark plug wrench and periodically check your plugs. Learning how to read your plugs can tell you a lot about your engine.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

September 13th, 2016 12:02 PM #10guys, question. is 5 to 6 km/l reasonable for 100% pure city daily drive on a 9 year old Altis 1.6 A/T? moderate to heavy traffic mornings, light to moderate traffic afternoons (makati > ortigas, vice versa)
If purely for City driving then get the Emax7. since you already have other cars for longer drives....
