October 6th, 2014 06:56 PM #2hindi naman... maraming diesel din..
diesel engines are more expensive to manufacture. thus, diesel vehicles are more expensive in the showroom.
diesel engines generally spew out more pollution than gas engines. environment-conscious buyers shun diesels.
diesel engines vibrate more, are noisier, generate more heat, and are generally slower than gas.. thus, many private buyers shun diesels.
maintenance? it's debate-able..
about the only thing cheap in diesels, is its fuel. but this, is a political decision..

October 6th, 2014 07:45 PM #4I think its how you do PM on the engine itself, may it be diesel or gasoline... though makapal talaga ang diesel engine in terms of build than gasoline engine.. kasi yung pag sunog ng diesel sa loob ng engine is thru compression, while gasoline, is thru spark.. kaya mapansin mo gasoline engine, maliit compared to diesel.

October 6th, 2014 07:48 PM #5Both are reliable depending on the maintenance, but diesel should last longer because the block is designed to handle higher pressures.

Running cost - diesel has more torque more energy content so it uses less fuel to move a mass.. You save more fuel using diesel and our gov't subsidizes the cost so diesels here are cheaper to run than gaz.
No much small cars diesel here because manufacturers are playing safe. They know in the long run, bad Ph fuel quality will kill the motor. Ph fuel is dirty and still uses 500ppm sulfur. Most newer Diesels uses high pressure injectors, injectors esp those piezo electrics wear faster when exposed to dirt/water contaminants and they cost hundreds of thousand to replace. High sulfur kills the cat plus will plug most DPF, re-burn cycles will then be needed more often translating to waste of fuel.
Availalbility of course will depend on demand/ how much consumers are willing to spend. Most middle class families would rather buy a sub-million econo car that could move 5 people and don't have to worry much about maintenance.. Gasoline cars falls in that category while most diesels have to be strippen down as much amenities just to bring down at the price of consumer level and yet still it cost more. So price point, mahal talaga ang diesel cars most families would rather get the cheaper gasoline di bale na mahal ang fuel. But some that could afford the initial cost of ownership and knows the maintenance part would chose diesel, bawi na lang sa fuel cost. hehe

Diesel engines will last longer than gasoline engines because of the heavier components. It also has more powerful torque than gasoline engines making it more fuel efficient and fit for daily heavy traffic place such as metro manila.
Ive been driving my mitsubishi L200 for the past 18 years with no engine trouble at all. It is currently logged at 390,000kms and the engine was never overhauled or taken apart. Key to long lasting engine is regular change oil. The only time it did stall was when the clutch was so worn out it wont move but the engine is still running.
IMO, get a diesel engine powered vehicle.

Reliability - depende na sa PMS. Pero diesel engines requires more attention.
Maintenance - Diesel engines cost more on PMS's. Diesel engine requires more oil than gasoline engine.
Cost - diesel engines are more expensive than gasoline engine
For me, diesel engine are more fun to drive because of its better FC.

up for this, should i buy a diesel fueled car lets say accent or focus or gasoline sub compact car with 1.0 to 1.3 gas engine? mas mahal ang diesel car sa gasoline car at mas mahal rin maintenance but fuel is definetely cheaper. in the long run saan ba talaga ako makakatipid?
Agree with you there. Nicely put.
