April 27th, 2011 09:28 PM #1Look at the temp setting of thermostat. Opening temp is normally stamped on the thermostat. It will open at that setting.

A very simple Tstat modification you can do is to drill it. We do it on a lot of the higher performance cars here in the states, lowers the temps of your car without loosing the function. Sometimes you can't get a stat with the range you want so you can just drill it.
This is particulary common on 180F ones. I have put in a drilled stat on every Grand Prix I have owned including the Daytona 500 one I have now (they are superchared from the factory) It gets to 110F here in south Texas so you need it. Most of the Corvette and Z28 guys do the same thing as well.
Two 1/16" holes should make a nice difference for you and might eliminate your problem. I run a drilled 165F stat in my car. I drilled out the one on my Elgrand as well. It had no stat when I got it which I don't like so I replaced it. Never gets overheated no matter how I pound on it.

sana ok na ang car mo. it couldnt be tstat. kasi kung tstat, mag over heat yan while on motion. actually, the function of the tstat is to trap heat in order for the engine to reach the normal operating temp as quick as possible. while others may not agree, our cars will function even better without the tstat as we are in the tropics. pampasadang jeep na halos hindi namamatay ang makina dahil sa palagiang gamit, tinatanggal talaga ang tstat. sobrang init kasi sa atin. regarding sa clutch fan, refilling it with silicon is most practical. mura lang naman yan, around 80 petot yata ang tube. kung talagang nagtitipid, lock mo nalang. sabay sa ikot ng crankshaft. my 2 cents.

Re thermostat, it has been discussed several times na, one reason kaya sila ang major pollutant sa lansangan.

June 2nd, 2013 09:11 AM #8kelangan bang i-trato na pampasaherong jeep ang everyday commuter naten?
kasi po sir kung tatanggaling naten t-stat baka sa short trip everyday commuter like a <12 km baka di na umabot lagi sa normal operating temp like a an innova.
kung pang racing racing mode ka na lagi high revving, doon lang po ako mag-agree modifying the t-stat.

i am trying to illustrate the effects of tstat on our engines. as i said, we are in the tropics. kahit walang tstat, we will hit the normal operating temp within 10 minutes. kung may winter sa pinas, we cant definitely reach the normal operating temp even in an hour without it. we will even need to preheat our cars thru electrical plugs in our homes. wala akong innova but by experience, yong delivery van ko dati na L300 na tinanggalan ko ng tstat, idle ng 5 mins, normal operating temp na.
If purely for City driving then get the Emax7. since you already have other cars for longer drives....
