Back in the day ... Honda decided (as with most companies) that using "environmentally" soy-based coating for wires was a smart idea ... then it became a headache ... because apparently rats could not resist chewing on them ... so they are forced to come up with a supposed "smart" idea of making an anti-rodent electrical tape ...

This is not the first time this happened ... in the 80s ... Mercedes decided to use environment friendly plastic on the wiring harnesses of the W124 (which is the predecessor to the E-class) ... lo and behold, after 10 years or so, these wiring harnesses became brittle and just disintegrated ...

i suppose, this tape is for those cars that used delicious insulation material on their wiring?

so, has honda changed their formulation of their wiring insulation material?

was at the honda casa last month for PMS periodic maintenance scam. at the adjacent bay was perhaps a 2023 model. the technician was doing some very dodgy soldering on the wiring so no they haven't reformulated

and it's not just wires. last year i entered a sand pit on my jimny. unbeknownst to me, rats have chewed up a vacuum line that activates the 4x4 system and thus wouldn't engage. i had to shovel my way out of that place LOL
