Does anyone know any suppliers that specializes on brand new alternators at decent prices?
I've replaced my IC regulator around 3 times already and the guy at Rey's Electrical is recommending na palitan na yung buong alternator. The recent IC regulator (I bought from them which they took out from a recon) got busted only a after a few uses, kaso di na ako makaclaim ng warranty because bihira lang gamitin yung sasakyan and almost a year na lumipas.
Problem ko is umiilaw nanaman yung battery indicator light, although ok naman yung karga, kaso they are saying its only a matter of time na hindi na magcharge ng tama. I am suspecting na baka diode lang (which I also replaced before and had a similar symptom), kaso may risk daw na baka di na kumarga pag binaba ulit and then I'd definitely need to buy a whole new one agad.
The vehicle is an Opel, although I understand that other European brands use the same alternator (maybe different pulley lang).
Gusto ko muna tumingin kung may mahahanap akong brand new na maganda naman price before I move on to surplus/recon.
Thank you!

as a DIYer on auto repairs, i also share the sentiments of some mechanics. lalu na kung wala kang specialized equipment in evaluating alternator output except for a simple multimeter (volt, ohm, diode test).
technically, mahirap pa rin iconclude kung ano ba talaga sira hanggat hindi nadidisassemble ang isang part ng sasakyan. sabihin man natin overcharging or not charging condition.
kung experience lang ng mekaniko sa tabi tabi at ang problema ay no charge condition, agad nya sasabihin na pudpod na brushes. e malay natin baka connection problem lang pala, di ba. so further inspection of every component in the system ang kailangang gawin ng isang "professional" mechanic. hindi yung "replace this-replace that" type of troubleshooting.
mga repair shop dito samin sa tabi tabi actually charge P300-500 as a minimum in R & R for the alternator assembly alone. di kasama syempre yung price sa component like regulator, brushes, rotor, stator, bearings, oil seals, etc.
sa kaso last time e nagjujump to 16 volts yung akin. disassembled it. pumasa sa diode test yung rectifier assembly. rotor ay pasado rin sa continuity test. ganon din sa stator coil. ngunit ininspect ko maige stator e may part pala ng winding na tanggal na insulation.
ayon, bumili na lang ako ng surplus for 5k (2 years ago) at nirebuild ko pa rin for sure. tama naman charging voltage nung tinest sa surplus shop. kaso nung binaklas ko malulutong na rin oil seals. malapit na rin mapudpod ang brushes. bearings nya parang may sayad din. ayun palit yung mga piyesang nabanggit. so far so good.
just sharing.

October 15th, 2014 01:47 AM #83i just saw an ad in ayosdito, for an opel vectra alternator. 3500 kesos.
dated august.
knowing that opels are as rare as hens' teeth here, it might still be there..
i also know that if the wrong IC is installed, it doesn't last long..
perhaps you should consult another alternator man... yock's, perhaps?Last edited by dr. d; October 15th, 2014 at 01:49 AM.

Read about Rey Villa Auto Electrical Shop on this thread while looking for a repair shop for our Hyundai i10 alternator. Went to their branch on 15th Ave., Cubao and they were able to repair the diode for P1,300. Hoping it lasts.

I am currently observing the 2SM battery installed on my MU-X, Yuasa brand. Kaka 1 yr lang nito...
Cheaper brands than Motolite but reliable as well
