Car Guide PH review is out: Review: 2 25 BYD Sealion 6 DM-i | ************ | Philippine Car News, Car Reviews, Car Prices
"I never really like to throw the term, “gamechanger,” but that’s exactly what the BYD Sealion 6 DM-i is. Though it falls short in terms of driving fun, it excels in just about everything else. Buyers will surely be piqued by it because of its stupendous fuel economy, but they’ll find that there’s more—way more—to like. Whether it’s the high levels of tech, space, equipment, and safety, this compact SUV has it all."

The article starts with:
"Simple arithmetic reveals that it’s just 18.33 km/L—comparable to a typical non-plug-in hybrid setup or even a diesel-powered SUV. But focusing on the consumption figure alone doesn’t tell the whole story. See, a plug-in hybrid will never reach the same level of efficiency as a typical hybrid or a battery electric vehicle for one reason: it’s carrying two full powertrains, but only uses one at any given time. True enough, with a 1,830-kilogram curb weight, it’s heavier than a Honda CR-V RS e:HEV or even the BYD Atto 3."
And yet the writer concludes with "Buyers will surely be piqued by it because of its stupendous fuel economy". Is this even the same person?

Sounded like it was just copied from the press materials ... review lacked so many details ...

Uly (runs Car Guide PH) typically doesn't mince his words with his reviews (likely the reason why Mazda no longer sends him cars to check out). Most reviewers in the PH usually don't want to ruffle feathers, to be honest.

September 19th, 2024 01:46 PM #106Malamang iyong 1st part dahil sa press release figures.
Last part dahil sa actual.
The entire week the Sealion 6 DM-i was with me, I consumed just 7.6 liters of fuel and 34.4 kWh of battery equating to 43 km/L and 9.5 km/kWh (average speed of 14 km/h). Bonkers, right?

Top Gear review:

"The BYD Sealion 6 DM-i is one of the best Chinese cars you can buy today, mainly because of its extremely attractive and competitive price point. At P1.548 million, you would expect entry-level specifications, but this car comes with almost all the bells and whistles you could hope for in a tech-forward automobile.
That said, you have to balance this with how the Sealion handles rough roads. It’s the one blemish in what could be one of the most competitive cars in its price range and segment. Yes, there is hype when it comes to this car, and frankly, it almost lives up to it."

still a bit confusing
if byd claims that their dm-i tech on ICE and EV works in tandem (independent? semi-independent? simulataneous?), shouldn't the car be able to run even if either the ICE or EV are gone?
sa Nissan e-power, it is clear that only the EV powers the transmission and the ICE is only a generator.
