My friend gave Chevy a chance. Got nothing but headaches for his Cruze.
Spent 6 months in the casa because parts took so long to arrive for his transmission problem. First time I actually encountered a manual with grave transmission problems. Not long after that, aircon gave out. Another 3 months stuck in the dealership.
That was his company car so he's pretty lucky all costs were shouldered by the company. But they've spent so much on his Cruze that all employees getting Chevrolets in the future have to sign a waiver that the company will cap the maintenance support to the same level as the average from other brands.
It drives nicely when it works though...until the next breakdown. He's trying to get rid of it now but noone wants to buy it at anything higher than 250k. All those 300k+ Cruzes on OLX? For sure it ain't moving at that price level.
So what did he get for his next ride? A Hilux. No way he was gonna consider a Chevrolet again after his experience.
For many people, going with Chevrolet is a gamble. And many people aren't willing to gamble their hard-earned or hard-loaned million+ pesos.

Not exactly sure what went wrong, IIRC they had a series of misdiagnoses, and then eventually replaced the whole transmission assembly. I can ask the details next time we see each other.
It's a pity, the Cruze was surprisingly good to drive. Very planted, very good throttle input and clutch modulation, and decent power with the 1.8.
Now the new Spark looks promising, since it's one of the few minicars that actually looks respectable, almost subcompact-like in stance. Hopefully TCCI has a bit of brand equity left after the awful launch of the Sail and the near-zero media mileage on the new Cruze.

di malayong mangyari yang iniisip mo bro pag makita mo yung nakita ko sa isang chev dealer
habang nagpa pms ako... nanghihinayang talaga ako sa isang H1 at H3 hummer model sa chev dagupan that were just gathering dusts while waiting for spare parts.
yung H3 (more than 5-months na doon at kay gov pa ito) ay transmission daw ang issue dahil di daw pwedeng mag-shift sa reverse. forgot the issue of the H1 (doctor owned).
not sure though if i gonna ditch my tbz

Spark is interesting... all-new engine family... completely different from both the Sonic and Sail.

Didn't like the power to weight ratio of the 1.8 Cruze, especially with the automatic... so heavy. (especially compared to sprightlier cars like the 3.) With the MT, though, it's acceptable, but the gearing was a bit long for my taste.

Gotta look up those issues... might be doing a used car review for the Cruze in the near future.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Same observation about the long gearing, although once you get into the powerband, it does deliver linear grunt until redline.
Good top-end too, my friend says the cruise (pun intended) to 200 kph was pretty fuss-free. Can't say the same for my past 3 automatics (Mazda 3 2.0R, Altis 1.6G, Civic 1.8 EXi) - all having issues with really long 4th gears, making it feel like driving agsinst a wall past 185. The Civic at least gets to 200 on a flat road, the other two need a bit of a tail wind to lift the revs up above 5000 rpm.
