I've never driven an Accord so I can't compare. I only have CR-V 98 aside from this new Mazda 6. I didn't consider Accord because it's a gasoline engine. Considering my weekly travel of 500 - 1000 km, I decided that I should switch to a diesel variant.

If I were to base it from reviews, they say that Accord has a better room space. However, my two grown up kids aged 23 & 19 didn't complain about space. This is really good news for me since my wife and kids were complaining about space in my father's Sta. Fe.

In terms of performance, the Accord is the sure winner. The post earlier made this the "fastest" car with 5 seconds (I forgot the exact figure) while the Mazda 6 2.5 L is the "slowest" for 0 - 100 kph category. Much more for my diesel variant, this will be very, very, very slow.

As a daily drive, I'm not sure if the Accord will be the winner. I don't have the figure for its fuel consumption. In terms of maintenance, this Mazda is the winner. At least, for its first three years. Maintenance is absolutely free! Labor, oil, and others (not sure about filters) are free for three years or 60,000 km whichever comes first.

There are times that it is better to rent. In my case, I left our house and decided to rent. My wife is just "a stone away" from her work while my two kids are half an hour (or less) away from school. Things will change once my two kids are finished with their Master's degree...

A good turbodiesel will be faster off the line than most gas variants of the same car. The gas variants do catch up at speed / very high RPMs though.

Diesel = More torque at lower RPMs... faster initial acceleration.

It could be... but I haven't verified this yet and neither have I reached the red line so I really can't say. Again, in comparison to Accord this Mazda 6 is very slow.

I guess yung exception are the V6 variants. My earlier post was referring to the more pedestrian 4 cylinder ones hehehe

Just putting this out there... Why not a TOTL VW Jetta and swap the mags and tune it. You'll get a sweet ride that's fun to drive but still frugal enough in the long run in case your priorities change.

The Accord 2.4L and Mazda6 2.5L (gas) are about the same in terms of performance, around 8 seconds from 0-100kmh and good up to 200kmh. The Accord 3.5L V6 is a totally different animal which is about as quick as a Lexus IS350 (less than 6 seconds from 0-100kmh). The new Accord 2.0T is about as quick as the older 3.5L V6 but the 3.5L V6 has a higher top speed (more power).

Unless the gas variant is turbocharged in which it will be quicker than the turbo diesel. Turbo gas engines has peak torque available at around 2k rpm.

I am not sure how much output the VW 2.0L TDI can take after a good mod but the variant on the A4 and A6 are rated at 190hp compared to the 150hp tune of the Jetta. The mods will surely be expensive so it is more practical to just buy a WRX at a few hundred thousand difference. You get it stock at 260+ hp and comes standard with an intelligent AWD system. A few mods and you are at 300hp already.
